Now this is one of the shrines that you definitely need to see. Its a bit further out from the city centre but easy to reach by bus, or other public transport, so you can make it quick. Also, you can walk in, sit down, watch the beautiful garden, it is a real experience, I loved it.

USually not full with tourists because it's not on the must-do official list of Kyoto, although I think it is a big mistake to miss it. Go there and have some time to sit down and relax. You will not regret it, this is way more historical Japanese atmosphere than you can get in the big touristical sites.

Ninna-ji Temple in Kyoto is a very nice example of a city temple with reasonable grounds. there are some old structures throughout the property.

We came here by chance after visiting the golden temple. After the crowds of that, this was a delight. We missed the cherry blossoms but the zen garden is lovely and some of the paintings are exquisite. Best of all, it’s quiet and you can wander amongst the trees and reflect.

Of course it is not as shiny as other temples, but its location, the surroundings, the pagoda next to it, makes it an amazing place to visit. The paintings inside are very interesting and it is much less crowded than any other places we visited in Kyoto. We would highly recommend to stop there and visit.

This was one of my favorite temples when visiting Kyoto. I 100% recommend to pay the fee to enter and not just viewing the buildings from the outside. When you enter this temple you feel like traveling in time, it has a magic and peaceful atmosphere that makes you want to stay there for hours.
You can't just skip this temple if you travel to Kyoto!
