“Ritz Carlton - Room with No View”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

This new hotel is beautifully designed and constructed and sits on the riverside in a very unobtrusive way. It fits the role of a luxury destination with the equivalent price tag. The hotel's Italian restaurant is beautiful and food of an excellent standard and a bit of welcome change from having dined Japanese most meals. The hotel opened in Feb 2014 and I stayed in July at a time when the hotel was clearly not very full. The staff were all very well trained and were clearly trying to give the best service and experience possible. However, I was disappointed with my room which I was later informed was a "medium" level room ie not the lowest standard. Its room had a view of a cement wall, yes cement, and the room rate was $800-$1000 AUD per night. My feedback to management at the end of the stay was taken on board - in that if you are attempting to build a reputation and are not full then guests should be offered either a complimentary upgrade or discounted upgrade so that unless absolutely necessary no guest gazes out at a cement wall. Yes, I should have made my point at the beginning of my stay! So avoid rooms ending in "45" mine was 245.

Room Tip: Make sure your room has a view. Make sure you clarify the aspect of your room when booking and rece...

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your review and of course your wonderful comments we are so glad that you enjoyed your time with us here in Kyoto.

The hotel Indeed the location is very central here in Kyoto and only a stone’s throw away from all the entertainment of the Gion ( downtown Kyoto ).
The rooms themselves are quite spacious with a mix of Western and Japanese decor which makes your stay a real Kyoto experience.
Of course all of the above would be nothing without the touch of our Ladies & Gentlemen dedicated to servicing you in a way which only The Ritz Carlton can do.

We thank you again for your comments and most of all feedback in which is so important to us here, we hope to see you back one day again and until then from all of us here at The Ritz Carlton Kyoto wishing you all the best and of course safe travels.

Pictures are worth a 1000 words and I will add a few of this new Ritz-Carlton property that was the highlight of a month honeymoon trip in Asia. Service was obviously more then impeccable and the food we had at both restaurants was also up to the level. I strongly hope to visit this property again soon, it is worth crossing the ocean.

Impeccable and personalized service which surpassed our high expectations. The building has been cleverly designed to make the most of its location by the river. The philosophers path is a short bike ride away and the river's bank is a jogger's paradise.

It was first time in Kyoto and we decided to use some of our well earned points to splash out at the Ritz Carlton. Although we were there for only 1 night we were amazed from the time we arrived there. The first thing we noticed was the service as we arrived. Before we knew it, we were shown to our room where the check-in service was done. The room was amazing, the decor with the Japanese touch of a personal Bonzai tree and a view of a garden that was well designed. So after the personal check-in we explored the room some more and continued to be amazed at some of the inclusions, such as large bath, rain shower, and a bathroom flooring that was timber decking where the water ran away into. The room itself was a generous size and so was the vanity area with double wash basins with quality amenities. What was even more impressive was the built in TV in the mirror that was very discreet until you noticed the remote control within the amenities. The walk-in robe with sensor lighting was also a nice touch. Other room inclusions included extra large flat screen TV and other entertainment equipment which we unfortunately did not have time to enjoy. The staff were so friendly and almost seemed to be at service wherever you went within the hotel. So there was no shortage of hospitality. Being the first time we asked for assistance from the Concierge, and as she was on a call we were assisted by Anthony who was the Director of Rooms. He escorted us outside and spent time with us to go through the local map and suggested some sightseeing according to the limited time we had. His directions were accurate and very successful as we had a great afternoon riding pushbikes to see the local sights which he suggested and the next day with a visit to a few of the more famous temples. All in all we could not have been made more comfortable and we regret not having the time to have more of a look around at the hotel surroundings which seemed to be in immaculate condition.
So we would highly recommend a stay at the hotel, and even though it is at the top-end of hotels you certainly get what you pay for.

We had an amazing three night stay at the Ritz Carlton Kyoto. The hotel is new, beautiful, stunning and designed with the Miyabi concept of simple elegance. The hotel is smaller as compared to other Ritz Carlton hotels, which allowed for an intimate experience. Our room was spacious and had an amazing view of the Kamogawa River and mountains. The service and Japanese hospitality were second to none. The staff anticipated and took care of ALL our needs-restaurant reservations, taxis, takkyubin (luggage delivery service), etc. Unfortunately, our son got sick with strep and respiratory virus during our stay and fortunately, he got sick at the Ritz Kyoto! The staff was so helpful and genuinely concerned for him. They arranged for our visit to the urgent care and went with us to assist with the language barrier. We will never forget the “get-well soon” card signed by staff that they gave him to lift his spirits up, and their generosity for allowing us to check out late on our last day when he felt better so that he can at least have one afternoon to sightsee. They somehow managed to turn a bad situation into a pleasant one. It was indeed a memorable experience for us and we will always cherish our stay at the beautiful Ritz Carlton Kyoto.

Stayed 5 nights at the RC after a great deal of research and very happy with my choice. The hotel is absouletly beautiful. Finishes from top to bottom are top shelf. The staff really went out of their way to make the visit very special. One of the manager's saw us stuggling with the map and stopped by to help. He took the time to sit with us and provided a great overview of the city. This was just one example of the many times where the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The location is terrific. A short walk down a tree lined street to the Gion area and close to train/subway lines. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else...the Ritz Carlton IS the place to stay in Kyoto.
