I have stayed at this property on 3 occasions now and I love it. It exudes warmth and calm which is perfect for a city such as Kyoto. Granted it is not right in the centre but taxis in Kyoto are not expensive. The lobby area is stunning. The rooms whilst quite small (Standard room is 28 sqm) are perfect. The use of silk kimono headboards, paper lantern lights and light wood make it a very soothing atmosphere. The bathroom is also great with a deep soak tub and wet room shower. The light dimmer functions are great. The breakfast is also one of the best I have had in any hotel, served just off the lobby with views over the Japanese garden. Service at the hotel is faultless and Joe, the hotel GM is an exemplary host who further adds to the experience. Double thumbs up for this hotel, long may it reign as number one in Kyoto.

The Kyoto Hyatt is a truly great hotel. Where else would the manager be in the lobby to greet new (and old) arrivals. Our room of the 5th floor was terrific, with a view of autumn leaves, a nice balcony but very private, a great wood soaking tub, well designed bath fixtures, an efficient desk, good wifi. Skura Bando and Mari Inyoe at the concierge desk seem to know everything that is doing in Kyoto and can communicate well in English, always with a smile. Hyatt is unique for its very handsome and Japanese lobby decor. It also is wonderfully located, next door to Kyoto National Museum, Sanjusangendo temple with great sculpture and the hidden gem Chishakuin, just across the street.

This is our second visit to this beautiful city especially during the autumn leaves viewing. Last year we stayed at one of the 5 star hotels located in the Kyoto station building. This year we decided to try Hyatt Regency for 5 nights and we were not disappointed.
From Kansai airport you can easily take the airport bus limousine which is approximately 90 minutes away and cost 3000 yen. Once you reached Kyoto station you need to walk across the road to catch a 5 minutes taxi ride to the hotel which costs you around 1,000 yen.
The hotel is in a good location, close to several major attractions, convienent store and eating places. You can reach these attractions via the bus (bus stop just outside the hotel and serviced very frequently to Kyoto train station) or take the taxi. Walking time from the hotel to Kyoto station is an easy 15-20 minutes.
Unlike hotels located in big buildings without its own grounds, the Hyatt Regency is in a nice and serene location surrounded by a bamboo garden. The lobby is spacious and beautiful and gives a warm and welcoming feeling.
The room is very clean, well appointed and with views of the garden courtyard. The size of the room is adequate for 2 persons and very comfortable.
Staff provides faultless service and are always helpful and speaks excellent English. Internet is provided free if you are a platinum member.
The hotel also provides daily dinner voucher of 3,000 yen to all the restaurants located in the hotel which I thought was excellent. Quality of the food in the Japanese and Italian restaurants was good and prices are reasonable.
For those that are finding way back to Kansai airport using the bus limousine there is another alternative as suggested by the hotel concierge. It cost an extra 500 yen but this service will pick you up in front of the hotel (instead of you spending 1,000 yen by taxi back to Kyoto station to catch the airport limousine bus)
Overall we had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay at the Hyatt and we look forward to staying with Hyatt Kyoto again in our next trip.

Sights in Kyoto are quiet spread out - you will need to take trains, buses and/or taxis. Picking a location for your hotel is dependent on what mode you chose. Since we were short for time, and we used taxis exclusively, the hyatt was a nice location, sort of close to mutiple sites but not next to a station. The room was very clean and in warm wood tones with views of bamboo plants. The shower was large and the shower pressure was excellent - very calming experience. The buffet was fine but not great, especially for the price. Wifi was free and good.

Stylish, understated with friendly staff. We found the place to be comfortable well located and with excellent restaurants, especially the trattoria. The place comes into its own at night when the architecture and art really stand out.

Only downsides are the slightly cramped but beautifully appointed rooms and the lack of a pool.

I'd return in a heartbeat though.

There were many positives about our 5-night stay at the Hyatt. Our fourth floor room was spacious, functional and mostly well appointed. The WiFi worked well and was free because we have Platinum status. The concierge was great in assisting us with restaurant reservations for our group of 6 and making arrangements for a taxi for a 5:30 AM departure to Itami Airport. Much is expected from a hotel of this caliber however. While the shower stall in the bath was huge and had a rain-shower head, the bath was not equipped with a double sink. Although there were reading lights over the bed, the lighting in the rest of the room was barely adequate. For many staying here, the excellent breakfast buffet was included in the rate. Ours was not and the cost was steep - about $35 per person. Although tables turned over quickly, we were forced to wait on a couple of mornings. The two of us had dinner at the Japanese restaurant, Touzan and were largely disappointed with the mediocre food and indifferent service. Later in our stay our group of 6 had dinner at Trattoria Sette, the Italian restaurant. That experience was such a disaster that the restaurant comped us the entire meal and paid for our taxi to the airport. My 4-star rating does not reflect our dinner experiences as I have written a separate review on TA of Touzan and one of our dinner companions wrote a separate review here of Trattoria Sette.

Stylish, understated, wonderful staff, comfortable rooms. This is a lovely hotel. We arrived after a 10 hour flight and 4 hrs on the trains so were pretty tired but it's the perfect place to get over your travel. Great food too, which was a relief as we were far too tired to go restaurant hunting on arrival!
