First trip to Japan and also the first time to stay in a Japanese style hotel. The room is so well designed and very relaxing to the whole family. My daughter enjoyed it so much, especially in the bath room. Be sure to use the public bathroom and I bet you will like it. My family also tried the breakfast and dinner, which were ok. The location of the hotel is a plus, and easy to take city bus to anywhere in Kyoto. Sure to stay again.

This ryokan was the perfect place to stay in Kyoto. The rooms were well appointed and breakfast delicious. I can not say enough about the staff. They were friendly and really wanted to please. Send of was maybe the best part. Not only did they give us a couple of small gifts, but also came out and waved a banner as we were pulling away in the taxi. Made us feel more like family instead of guests.

We stayed two nights at this place and it was awesome. If you really decided to stay in a Ryokan, this place is the best choice for you. Clean and well designed japanese style rooms with comfortable futon beds. And the greatest thing was staff. They were the best i have ever seen and i guess that i will never see. Thank you guys.

Matsui Bekkan Hanakanzashi (MBK) was probably one of my favourite places to stay during my 15 day stay in Japan.

From Kyoto station, it is a subway trip (3 stops or so) and a little walk. However, a GPS or map would help you (with the aid of locals also).

The location itself is absolutely lovely. It sits itself in the local streets of Kyoto where you feel like you're living there also. When you step outside it is humbling in itself to see people go on their daily routine. A 5 minute walk takes you to Teramachi shopping arcade where you can relax with food or shop till you drop. For me, Teramachi had a couple of arcade places where i enjoyed local gaming (street fighter and gundam). Because it is so close to the station AND Teramachi, you can practically go any where you want via bus, subway or walking. 10 minutes walk takes you to the Gion district, where was a half an hours travel takes you to the gold or silver temples. The location is simply awesome.

The service is everything and more that i expected from a traditional Japanese inn. The staff are friendly and helpful, although their English isn't extensive it is more than enough to help with every day things. The room was spacious, but lacked a view but that did not bother us. Kyoto is for exploring and not for hotel room sightseeing right?

Although the value of this hotel was a little pricey, I would do it again in a heartbeat. This is truly a Gem that started off my travels in Japan with nothing short of amazement and joy.

If you do end up staying here, head left after you exit the hotel and try the karaage chicken shop (on a corner 1-2 away) on the way to Teramachi. The owner is friendly and the value for it is pretty decent. Amazingly delicious though!

Room Tip: Rent a bike to explore and ask for a map (if you do not have access to internet)

i am glad that we stayed in this traditional inn in Kyoto. It became a memorable experience and i would recommend this one to others.
I like dinner served in your room - very fine dining and way to provide service the hotel guests. The only strange thing was about check in process - you would not expect only 40 min before the check in time which is by the way 16-00 to be put off by the hotel staff letting you know that we need to wait.

The sleeping experience was okay, it was a bit unusual and uncomfortable since it is something that we have done before.
Overall, i would recommend this property with good location in the city and good experience.

My Wife and I stayed here for two nights with breakfast and evening meals included in April 2014. We loved this place and everything about it, especially the people. The management, reception, ladies who delivered and served our meals, prepared our beds for the evening - all fabulous! We received a number of nice little touches and freebies both on our arrival and departure. As regular travellers to Japan we felt that this place was equally truly authentic, high class and yet very warm and supportive towards western travellers. We can't rate this place high enough! Please however do plenty of research before staying at a high end Ryokan. You owe it to the hotel and other guests and you will enjoy your stay more. We will be back here some time soon. Thank you Matsui :-)

Room Tip: They are all great from what we saw to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. Located on a centr...

We spent three nights in Kyoto in August and it was very hard to find a central accomodation for 4 people, so we finally got 1 night at Matsui Hotel booked trhough the site japaneseguesthouses.com and 2 nights at the Watazen ryokan booked directly on the hotel website.
Both choice were excellent.
The Matsui Hotel is a japanese hotel with traditional rooms with tatami and futon.
Our room for 4 people was spacious and clean with private toilet and bathroom.
The japanese dinner was excellent! It was served in our room and it offered many different japanese tipical dishes: soup, fish, meat, shabu shabu, vegetables and other strange food we did not recognize!
Even the japanese breakfast is great, but only if you are familiar with this kind of flavour early in the morning (8:30 as the latest!).
The public bathroom experience was nice, expecially after a full day of walk in the sun (incredibly hot and humid in August).
The staff is very friendly and efficient: as soon as we arrived they offered us traditional green tea and cookies.
Matsui Hotel is located nearby Shijo street which has bus connection with major touristic site in Kyoto, and it is two subway stops from the JR Kyoto station.

I totally reccomend this hotel to everyone travelling to Kyoto!
