“Clean and good position”
Reviewed 4 February 2014

In novemer 2012, I spent one week in this hotel. The location is really good: two minutes walking distance from Karasumaoike subway station, which is where the 2 subway lines in Kyoto meet. The room was small, but very clean. The staff was really friendly, kind and helpful (they even provide the adaptors for sockets free of charge ). The breakfast was continental for the no-japanese people, but it was really poor: they serve eggs every morning and on a desk only milk and yogurt can be found.

If you're looking for quality budget accommodation then this is it!

The Kyoto Garden Hotel is ideally located near the Imperial Palace Gardens and other top sightseeing areas.

The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help.

The actual hotel is clean and well looked after although an older style hotel and has wifi available throughout.

The room had everything I needed for my stay including quality toiletries and a super strong heater that was definitely required for the time of year in Kyoto.

A tip for sightseeing is to hire a bike. That way you get to see so much more of the city at your own pace. I'm sure the front staff will be able to recommend bike hire shops.

I enjoyed my time at Kyoto Garden Hotel and would happily stay again.

We stayed here 2 nights and had a pleasant experience. The whole place has a brown 70's decor going on and the rooms are pretty small, but it is very clean and well kept. Staff is friendly. Located very close to the station and in walking distance from many sights.

Stayed here as part of a work trip so I didn't specifically choose it but I wasn't impressed. The desk staff were pleasant enough but the rooms were nothing special. They were small with no hanging space which is not uncommon in Japan but they did feel very budget. The bathroom especially was outdated and rather like a caravan bathroom. The worst part was the food at breakfast, the 'western' breakfast left a lot to be desired. It was all ok but I wouldn't recommend it or return.

This hotel is very close to the subway station and it is not too far from Kyoto station.
The room is small, really small. The loo is nearly the size of the loo from a BA plane!
There is no wardrobe and if you have a big luggage you may not be able to open it!
There is no breakfast included. It I a place for one night, maximum 2.

The hotel is located conveniently with just 2 min walk from Karasumaoike subway station, which is where the 2 subway lines in Kyoto meet. It is in the middle of the business district so it is surrounded by office buildings. However, the area is quiet at night and there are not many restaurants nearby, so finding a good place to dine is not easy. It definitely needs some renovation as the lobby is old and the rooms are also quite worn. One of the glasses in the room has some stinks in it, which is something I don't expect to see in a Japanese hotel. Otherwise, the place is generally clean. The room is, as usual like many Japanese hotels, extremely small. I stay there for 2 nights. The price is extremely competitive (3900 yen for a night, i.e. about US$37). It does not accept credit card though so prepare to pay in cash.

Our second hotel during a 10 day trip in Kyoto in December 2013. Noticed that the reception staffs during our 2 night stay there are middle aged males (probably early to mid forties) whilst almost all other hotels have younger males and females managing the reception desk. It is of course not a problem and they are very professional and friendly. Room is small and impossible to accomodate two suitcases. Bathroom is small but functions well. A few minutes walk from a number of convenience stores and a 24 hr supermarket. Considering the rate, it is a good value hotel
