The monkey park was amazing. We loved the hike up and the monkeys were adorable. It’s only 550 yen per person to get in and you can pay 100 yen for apples or peanuts to feed the monkeys. The monkeys roam freely and when you want to feed them you have to go inside the building. This was one of the best things we did while in Japan.

What a fun experience in Kyoto. Our 20 and 17 year olds were like little kids again - we laughed and had smiles the whole time. It so great to be up close to the monkeys and to feed them. If you have the time go - the neighborhood is really cute too with some good shrines.

It's a 20-30 min walk uphill depending on your pace (I personally love hiking, my hubby not so much) but they have a few resting spots along the way. The fee if I remember well were 500 yen. Once you get to the monkeys area they are free to roam around and you can go to an enclosed area to feed them (peanuts or apples 100 yen). I found the feeding part so adorable and entertainment at the same time. There's also a fantastic view of the city from the top. We spent like 2 hours here.
Tip: take water for the uphill hike

We enjoyed this as just part of our visit.. it was something different and the hike up the hill was good exercise. If you have to miss it though it would be okay to miss— I would most certainly go with children as a break for them from the usually shrine visits.

Outstanding experience to hike in a beautiful setting and see monkeys in their natural habitat. Even the opportunity to feed them which was a lot of fun. Food provided was super cheap and staff very friendly.
