The 20 minutes hike up is really gruelling and extenuating but there a few benches on the way to catch your breath. We went in August so saw babies and that's nice. We liked the snow monkeys better since it seemed more authentic since you don't feed them and the setting is more beautiful. It's still worth seeing if you're an animal lover.

Visited here on a hot humid August afternoon and the 15 minute walk up was tough but worth it when you encounter all the monkeys both inside and outside the viewing cage. There are also great views up here

Took the metro to see this and highly recommended - however, we went during a very hot day so the climb up the hill was long and hot - takes about 20 minutes to get up (and 5 to get down). You pay at the bottom of the hill. At the top oft the hill you get a great view of Kyoto as well as the well behaved wondering monkeys. The wardens keep a close eye so you are safe and you can't touch them. You can feed the monkeys via a small room - you can purchase cut apples and nuts at 100¥ per bag. You feed them through the wired windows and get a close up view. Great experience and well behaved monkeys !!

A rather demanding walk up the mountain in 30 degree heat. but beautiful nature, and a lovely view of the whole of Kyoto once you've reached the top. Several monkeys who had babys when we were there. Fun to watch them play. Easy to get to the monkey park, just cross the famous bridge and then directly to the right

We had so much fun, there was a possibility of purchasing a bag of food to feed the monkeys (100¥ per package).
