I could not fault this hotel, we booked it as one of the nicer hotels whilst we where in Japan however we hadn’t expected it to be as good as it was. We did have a superior room which meant the room was spacious and certainly worth the extra especially when we had booked smaller hotel rooms during the rest of our trip. The room was really clean, the handy device that is provided is a great little extra which gives you unlimited data to use on a device whilst out and about, it was great to take out with us to access google maps. You could opt to not have your room cleaned and they still provided clean towels. It was actually possible to unpack some of our stuff and there was space for our cases without them being in our way.
The hotel also provides free hot and cold drinks in the lobby from 2 pm every day which we hadn’t realised. It was never overly busy in there either and it was nice to use the area if you’d come back with food or to get a drink before bed. The hotel is close to Kyoto station and easy to find only about a ten minute walk or you could get the subway to Gojo which was just outside the hotel. We didn’t realize until part way through our stay there was a Mcds close by which was good for breakfast rather than hunting for somewhere or paying at the hotel which did seem a little over priced.
Loved this hotel and would say it felt more than 3 stars especially compared to some hotels here in the UK in large cities which class themselves as 4!!
Book this hotel if you are staying in Kyoto.

My husband and I stayed here five nights while visiting our son in Kyoto. I picked the hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews and am so glad I did. The hotel is in a good location with easy subway access to all the sights. If you don't mind about a 20 minute walk, you can walk downtown and to the Gion area as well as to some of best temples, such as Kiyomizu.

Our room was a decent size for Japan, with a very comfortable queen-sized bed, desk, small table and chair, The bathroom had all the toiletries you could need and nice Laura Ashley products in the shower. When we first arrived, it was 11 at night, and we were very hot and tired, and we couldn't figure out how to turn on the air conditioner since there were no English markings on the thermostat. Once we got it going, it was fine, but I do suggest they provide some instructions in English. That's pretty minor, though, Otherwise, the hotel was great! The room even has a "Handy" smart phone for use during your stay - great for looking things up and for navigating due to unlimited data!

We loved the public bath on the second floor. By the way, I'm a typically modest American woman, and I didn't feel at all uncomfortable. There are signs telling you what to do (in English), but basically, just wash first before entering the beautiful, large bath. In the women's bath, it was mostly Japanese moms and their young daughters, and no one really pays attention to anyone else. Very relaxing! The second floor also has very reasonably priced washers and dryers.

I definitely recommend getting a room rate with breakfast. The breakfast buffet was great! There were many Japanese choices, such as miso soup, fish, salad, tofu, and more, and also Western items such as scrambled eggs and bacon. Also bread made in Kyoto, nice selection of pastries, yogurt, and even spaghetti in the kids' area. I loved the coffee machine that makes fresh lattes! If you're not sure you'll eat breakfast there every day, you can also purchase it separately for $18.

The place is really nice for families, and since we were there during a school break, there were many. The hotel even has baby items that can be borrowed.

One tip if you're arriving at Kyoto Station. Exit via the Central Gate, and you'll be staring right at Kyoto Tower, Just walk north on that street. You'll pass a Starbucks and then a beautiful, huge temple complex (worth visiting) on the left. When you come to Gojo-dori, make a right and you'll see the hotel in a couple of blocks.

We did two day trips, both highly recommended - to Osaka and to Nara (home of the famous very tame deer!). Both are only about an hour away by train.

We loved our stay, and will not hesitate to stay again the next time we visit Kyoto.

We could not be happier to hear you enjoyed so much your stay at our hotel!.
Our hotel in 2017 has been at the top three best hotel in the Kansai area according to a famous japanese travel site and we got similar feedback in almost all the main booking sites.
New Vessels hotels are opening all around japan every year. If you are traveling in other cities in Japan, please check out for our hotels!

The pubblic bath at the second floor is always very welcomed by guests who want to fully experience japanese local culture. All the facility has been built in 2015 therefore is clean e new.

As you pointed out in your review, our hotel is very family friendly. Kids up to 18 years old can stay for free by sharing the bed with their parents and we offer a wide range of amenities for free like diapers, strollers, wet tissues, play cards, kids books and so on...

We do really hope to have a chance to welcome you again in the future.
Our Kindest Regards,

Andrea

The room is a bit small. The public bath is ok.
The staff is helpful. Need to take subway or walk 20 minutes+ to the heart of the city. Thus, the location is still
convenient.

Self service welcome drink available until 23:00. That’s good.

This place was great; the staff was very helpful and included a complimentary breakfast. 2 short blocks from the subway station made it convenient to get from place to place and I would definitely recommend for someone visiting the area!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for 3 nights whilst visiting Kyoto. Firstly, the location is excellent - it’s a 5 minute walk to the JR Kyoto station - where you will find many great shops and food choices, and the metro station is also accessible from just outside the hotel, which makes it a great base for your time in Kyoto.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel offers a welcome drinks service in the lobby from 2-11pm- this is great as you can relax and enjoy a coffee or soft drink when you return from your day’s exploits- it also gives you a bit more space to work out your travel plans than the bedroom will.

The rooms here were the smallest we encountered throughout our trip in Japan - if you’re travelling with a lot of luggage you will struggle here. Having said that, it is more than adequate and functional for a few nights. The rooms also offer a free to use smartphone for your stay- this is good if you don’t have your own pocket WiFi as you can take it with you and it also offers free calls to certain countries.

This hotel also offers public onsen baths - we used these during our stay and found them to be very pleasant- they are well equipped with all the toiletries you could need as well; it’s nice to have this option to relax after a long day sightseeing.

Breakfast was fairly decent - there is a good selection of western and Japanese offerings and we had no problem getting a good start to the day. The hotel does not offer evening meals, but there are plenty of restaurants within a short walking distance from the hotel. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel for anyone going to Kyoto.
