“5 Stars!”
Reviewed 7 March 2018 for a stay in February 2018

The place looks even better than the pictures! My family and I all enjoyed our stay and took full advantage of the amenities. Akiko was so wonderful communicative , I couldn’t have asked for a better place and host. I will definitely be coming back next time I am here!

“Wonderful, atmospheric Machiya, great location, amazing hosts!”
Reviewed 21 January 2018 for a stay in December 2017

Our family of five loved our stay in the Toji Machiya - it was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan! The home is very thoughtfully furnished and equipped and beautifully presented. Akiko and Patrick are wonderful and considerate hosts who ensured staying here was easy and fuss-free and provided so much inspiration for our journey through their website and links - thank you!! I would love to visit again and highly recommend this home away from home to anyone heading to Kyoto.

“Absolutely delightful traditional yet modern accommodation in Kyoto”
Reviewed 28 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

We were beyond delighted with this beautifully appointed traditional yet modern Japanese townhouse. The attention to detail with the decor was a nice surprise and the house had everything we required. Fantastically located near trains, local eateries, shops and attractions. We were comfortable and warm, with plenty of room. Owners were very helpful with booking a traditional tea ceremony with Geiko and Samauri show with lesson and costumes. We will be back and recommend Kyoto Toji Samauri Machiya to everyone.
