Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple is located in a center of Kyoto. It can be reached within five minutes walk from Gojo station, which is one station away from Kyoto station.

It is a Shin Buddhist temple.
The temple was established in 1602.

We enjoyed this temple compound as it was quiet and not many people. Nice buildings, especially the main temple building with its prayer hall. In the back area is a nice compound, do not miss this one!

Higashi Hongan-ji Fushimi Betsuin Temple was just about 15 minutes walking distance from Kyoto JR Station. The temple compound was really impressive and entrance therein was free. Most of the timber structures were rebuilt ones after fire accidents in the past. Nonetheless this temple is highly recommended.

Higashi Hongan-ji is the Eastern temple of a pair of temples of the Nishi Buddhist order. Like many Japanese buildings, it has burned down in the past, and this complex dates from 1895, though the original was built in 1602. The buildings are austere and impressive, together giving a sense of grandeur and wonder. It is very accessible being only 10 minutes walk from the station and free
