Good hotel but next to suspended highways

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Nov 2018via mobile
I have been before to Lohas hotels in Japan and their concept is fine for me, small rooms but well equipped with everything one might need.
The problem with this one was the awful location, with suspended highways literally passing by your window. I don’t know why people don’t mention this in their reviews but for me being able to get some sleep is the main criteria when choosing a hotel.
Good service overall but definitely expensive for what it offers.

Chose this hotel due to the pricing, the reviews from well-established people, the onsen in-site (though I unfortunately never was able to utilize it), and the relative newness of the hotel.

It's not hard to navigate to the hotel from the Honmachi station since the exit number is listed directly in the hotel name. However, the hotel is on the furthest end of the station near the Yotsubashi Line, but a good walk to the Chuo or Midosuji lines which also service the station. You might be better off navigating from street level depending on if you're good at orienting yourself.

The staff were excellent and friendly, and you can change your pillows and the like to match your comfortability (though I didn't need to utilize it). The room itself was excellent with comfortable beds and more than enough plugs to charge things.

If you don't want the breakfast option (which is what I did), the FamilyMart at the bottom is a must-go for things you need.

I highly recommend the hotel, great value for the price relative to other hotels. Just be prepared for a bit of a walk to some of the other subway lines - but if you're in Japan you know you're going to be walking anyways, so it's not that big of a deal in the end.

The Hotel was hard to find using the subway, especially if you're not use to underground navigation however once you're orientated the Hotel is right at the entrance of the exit. The breakfast was lovely, different hot choices each day and plenty to select from. The ladies level was a bonus including the onsen, laundry washing facilities, powder rooms etc. I was also impressed with the selection of bathroom samples and accessories available for free each day, and own pillow choice for comfort. There were plenty of delicious dining places a very short walk from the Hotel and open late. Unfortunately many of the staff did not speak English but they did have an ipad for interpreting and tried to help as much as they could. The biggest downside would be the location as it's nestled in a very busy highway area of Osaka not walking distance to night life or cultural entertainment.

Room tip: loved the bonus sample extras and the onsen after a long day

Pros: Family Mart on ground level; good hotel onsen; inexpensive self laundry facilities; good value breakfast buffet; dirt cheap rates for Osaka.

Cons: bizarrely small pillows; bewildered front desk staff who have difficulty dealing with personal requests; coffee vending machine never worked; questionable pedestrian safety (due to conflicts with speeding bicyclists on the sidewalk in front of the entrance); mediocre transit connections requiring long walk times, unsightly streetscape.

In the end, you get what you pay for.

Probably not bad for a night or two, but would not recommend for longer stays.

While the hotel is located in an untouristy part of Osaka, it is literally right outside the subway station and you're only a few stops from areas of interest. It was a pretty quiet area overall.

Check in staff were courteous, helpful, and spoke English well. Women receive small gifts each day after 3pm, such as beauty masks, essential oils, and hair accessories. You can choose your ideal pillow upon check in, however I found most options to be somewhat hard, as is common in Japan.

The room was small but conveniently equipped with a mini fridge, kettle, slippers, robes, toiletries, and a writing desk. The black out sliding curtain worked perfectly.

Excellent wifi.

The included breakfast buffet had many options, but starts/finishes early, also common in Japan.

This hotel was not booked by me, in the past that would have meant a shonky hotel in a back street somewhere with terrible service and not near anything of relevance.
I was pleasently suprised. Upon arrival it was on a main road, was well lit but not tacky and spotlessly clean. The staff spoke quite good English and were friendly, well mannered and polite so the check in was a breeze. Once checked in you have very little to do with the hotel staff again as the hotel is quite autonomous. Your swipe card gets you to where you need to go and check out is done without going to the desk.
I was staying here as I had business in the area so for me it was close to where I needed to be. The cab fare to Osaka's main attractions were only about $20 AUD and the traine line was close by as an option if needed. Room was of standard Japanese size, fairly small. However, it was modern, clean and all appliances and furniture was near new and fresh. On the ground floor of the hotel was a Family mart convenience store if any last minute items and snacks were needed. I will stay here again on my next trip to the area
