“Great place close to everything and cheap.”
Reviewed 11 January 2012

Compared to other hotels in central Osaka this one is cheap. Easily found and can be recommended to all. My clients stayed there also. No complaints at all.

Trusty Shinsaibashi is a business hotel conveniently located near Shinsaibashi-suji (which is a covered shopping arcade running north-south parallel to Midosuji Dori). The hotel itself does not look like a typical business hotel from the outside as well as the main lobby; it has an upscale look and even the staff are smartly dressed. The hotel attracts a fairly young clientele for a reason; the Italian restaurant which is part of the hotel which is favorite for many females and couples.

Once you hit the room though, it is typical business hotel affair in terms of room size and layout. I stayed in a single and to date, this was one of the smallest business singles that I've stayed in. I basically did not unpack since the closet was tiny and there were only a few drawers in the combination desk/dresser. The room furnishings however are upscale including the LCD television (free digital broadcast television as well as pay per view selections are available), the stainless steel ice bucket, and the hot water pot (complimentary green tea is provided). The television also has a guide to the area around the hotel which can be useful for finding places to shop and eat. The in room fridge is the typical small square box but the nice thing is it was not the locking type and had actual open space where I could put my own bottles of water. The room has an ethernet port for free Internet access. Wireless is also available in the lobby area of the hotel. Each floor also has a room with ice and vending machines. Everything is also clean (I mention this because some business hotels I've stayed at left much to be desired in this area.)

As mentioned, the hotel is near Shinsaibashi-suji (a short block to the west). There are many shops (drug stores, convenience stores) and eating places in this arcade which provide enough variety. A short block to the south is Nagahori Dori where there is a Tokyu Hands store. Below street level (there are several escalators/walk ways down) is a huge underground shopping complex called Crysta Nagahori which again has all sorts of shops and eating places. The place is huge and easy to get lost in (there is a similar huge underground mall in Namba called Namba Walk.) Several blocks south is the Dotonbori area which has a ton of eating places. The Apple Store Shinsaibashi is located on Midosuji Dori; its spiral glass stairway is a must see. America Mura is located a couple of blocks south; it's an entertainment/pop culture/fashion area but not necessarily like Harajuku in Tokyo. Let's just say it has its own flavor. All of this is within walking distance.

The main subway transit point for the hotel is Shinsaibashi Station (via the Midosuji Line). This line runs north-south and is around 12 minutes from Shin Osaka Station (which is where the shinkansen line runs through). I had no problems getting around the city including Umeda, Osaka Castle, the Shin-sekai area (where Tsutenkaku is located), and Namba.

For travelers looking to base out of Osaka to visit other areas in the Kansai region, then this hotel may not be the best location due to its distance from the shinkansen line (for that purpose, I would recommend staying somewhere in Umeda to the north of the Minamisenba area where this hotel is located). If however you are looking for someplace central to many of Osaka's main attractions and/or a convenient place for staying on a business trip, this happens to be one of my favorite places to stay in Osaka.

Additional information: the front desk staff can help you with shipping your luggage packages (takkyubin) to anywhere. This is actually recommended since it isn't easy finding an elevator that takes you up/down from/to the subway area below (there are a few but the directions can be confusing for those who are not familiar with the various exits).

Room Tip: For non-smokers, confirm with the staff that the room you reserved is non-smoking. Also, if you don...
