My friends and I stayed here for 2 nights and loved it!! The owner is so lovely, great English and willing to help with whatever we needed, including acces to a great kitchen. The room was perfect and the traditional Japenesse garden it opened out to was AMAZING! It's short to the JR line and Osaka Castle Park in a nice quite neighbourhood. If you're staying in Osaka, stay here and you won't be disappointed!

My husband has a flare for finding French hotels/guesthouses around the world, and this is no exception. This is a small guesthouse (or chambre d'hote) owned by a French/Japanese family

We had one night in Osaka before flying back home. We arrived in the afternoon and had planned to go downtown, but since this little guesthouse was so nice we decided to skip Osaka and just stay in. There are 2 rooms (the big one can be transformed into two rooms). We had originally booked the tea room, but since we were the only ones staying here this night we got upgraded to the huge room (two big bedrooms with 2 futons in each and space for more, two toilets, two bathrooms). This is really old Japanese style with a small Japanese garden in the middle. Our 4-year old had a blast running around at the small bridges and jumping from stone to stone.

There is a big kitchen that you can use if you want to eat in or cook. We were recommended to go to pick up some sushi at the local sushi restaurant, and they were very good. The owners also offered to order food to be delivered at the guesthouse, but it was really only a few hundred meters to walk. There is also a very good udon restaurant just next to it and a supermarket if you want to buy breakfast.

There is a playground (maybe not the best, but there is one) 100 m from the guesthouse which can be very nice to have if you have little ones who are tired of temples and walking and need to run a bit.

It is a bit of a walk to the train station. It might be 10 min if you walk briskly but with all the luggage and a 4-year old in a tow it's more like 20 min. Luckily the son of the family stayed at the house and offered us a ride to the train station at 5.30 in the morning. Such a life saver!

Room Tip: The tea room is very cosy and big enough for a small family. Where we stayed was enormous for us and...

As soon as you walk through the entrance door, you discover this traditional ryokan and a lovely Japanese garden. This quiet and exceptional environment right in the middle of the city was the best start ever for our first trip to Osaka.
The owners are a friendly couple, ready to help you with some advices (they speak Japanese, French and English) about the city and surroundings. We also could arrange a very late check-in due to a delayed flight, and a free late check-out.
Contrary to other reviewers, we think the location is very convenient: 10min walking distance to 2 subway stations (FYI, important lines), a post office, a 24/24h convenience store (useful to buy some breakfast as the owners don't provide any), a laundry store, an awesome tiny Ramen restaurant open until 2 am etc. The guests have full access to the kitchen, living room and free wifi. The first time you look for the place, you might think it is a bit complicated to find. But the owners provide a useful detailed map. Afterwards, you will never forget this charming place.
Regarding the room, it is quiet big for Japanese standards, a traditional bathroom, a beautiful and relaxing view over the garden, and veeeery quiet to have some great sleep after a long day of visits.
To put it in a nutshell, we definitely recommend this guest house, better than a hotel, and we will go back on our next trip!

This is the place to be in Osaka, dont look any further. Quiet location, zen atmosphere. Not a hotel but a ryokan experience. Not to be missed. 10 minutes walking distance from the nearest tube station

Carpe Diem is a traditional ryokan and it is absolutely beautiful (even during winter time!). My friends chanced upon the website of this ryokan when we were looking for an affordable ryokan in December (Yes, this is an overdue entry.) Just check out the pictures and you'll know what I mean! We initially booked 2 nights but we only reached on the 2nd night due to some flight delay and we had to seek accommodation elsewhere. Location is not that accessible as it is a distance away from the train stations. We lost our way for quite some time, even after asking the locals. It is located within a neighbourhood. Misa was a great host. She helped us to settle in when we reached and turned on the heaters. The rooms were the traditional Japanese rooms with futon beds. Be assured that the beds are so comfortable that you won't want to get up in the morning. They have sliding wooden-framed glass doors and you can see the morning view of the garden when you get up. The view is so beautiful that we didn't want to leave. They have two rooms with a sliding compartment in between which is great for groups of friends who want to split up to their gender. The washroom and bathroom were separated and very small, just enough for one person. However, cleanliness was not compromised.
Carpe Diem is awesome for its view and comfort. Highly recommended!

Carpe Diem is a beautiful traditional ryokan (traditional Japanese guesthouse) with a lovely and well-kept garden at its center. It proposes very nice traditional Japanese rooms with tatami floor and futon beds.

A great address to escape from the Osaka city frenzy.
