“Excellent cheap hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2014 via mobile

The area is a bit run down, but you are only two subway stops from all the fun in the Namba area using Dobutsuen-Mae (exit number 4) and you can get directly straight to the hotel in about 45 minutes from Kansai Airport, getting off at Shin-Imamayi (East exit) and walking for 5 minutes. The hotel is in an area where there are many cheap hotels in the 1000-2500 Yen range clustered together.

Hotel Kaga has small rooms, which are clean, have a tv, fridge and free wifi. You also get a ticket to the bathhouse around the corner. This is a great base to see Osaka using a one day subway pass for 800 Yen (600 Yen at weekends) and also Nara, Kobe and Kyoto if you need to keep costs right down while having your own room rather than a dorm. The people who run it are friendly and helpful.

I've stayed here a few times now and noticed a lot more foreigners staying in this hotel and area recently. Khao San Rd it isn't but who knows what the future holds. It could do with a lot more notices, backpacker-info, banana pancakes in the vending machine etc.

Totally recommended.

You can't expect much more for this kind of price in Japan, i paid less than 15$ a night
for sure the place have a lot of character, the room are small but clean and comfortable with a steel door, look a bit like a mix between an hospital and a prison but not in a bad way.
The toilet are also clean and they have heated toilet seat (I love japan)
the hotel is located in a back street of not the best neighborhood of Osaka, but other than that the location is perfect been 3min walk to Shin-imamiya station (4 different metro & train lines)
Only two stop away to Namba and to Dotonbori, the riverside nightlife district.
Only Downside: Check out is at 9am

Location is near shinsekai, very convenient to go to tsutenkaku tower and tennoji temple.

Price is very cheap although nearby hotels offer similar price but most of the places aren't listed in online hotel booking websites.

Shower room is very clean, but there's only 1 shower room in first floor for the men, while for girls there's shower room in every floor..I think..

But the place is really you get what you paid for kinda room, don't expect big room or even lots of space. The room is very small and if you have lots of baggage then you wouldn't even able to move there.

The corridor gives you feeling that you were in some random old apartment in China and it's pretty scary and the room I stayed at have a damp smell (like old people smell)...

It's quite okay if you're looking for a place with a very cheap price, but adding up a bit more you could probably get a hostel (dorm room) with better facilities.

I didn't quite realize what kind of area this would be when I got to it. It's the only place I've found in Japan with homeless people, and it's probably the biggest group of homeless I've seen in any major city. Nonetheless, everyone in the neighborhood was friendly. Hotel staff was friendly. THe rooms were nice and 'authentic' for what you think of Japan, but I get the idea that they don't deal with tons of foreigners. For the price it was very good, and even as a woman travelling alone in Japan, I felt pretty safe.

Nice and fresh futon/tatami styled rooms, shared facilties really clean. Not easy to find if you are walking in the dark & pouring rain. Also a free ticket for the Spa, just two blocks away. If you look at a rate of 1500 Yen per night: wonderful value for money!

Room Tip: If you book: email them for location details in order to be prepared and well- informed
