Yes, JR you have done it again! The JR Osaka Station is massive and without doubt an attration all of it's own. We visited late November 2013 (and have been previous years), and it never lets us down. Particularly this time of year they go 'all out' to create a fabulous Christmas experience I have included photos however they don't do it full justice. The Christmas 'Twilight Fantasy' brings the spirit of Christmas to everyone travelling through Osaka Station.
The station itself is always meticulous and the shopping goes on forever! We left the platform at the wrong exit and found an exceptionally helpful visitor information hostess, who was equally as thrilled to meet us as it turned out she was planning a holiday to Australia and loved the experience of trying out her English on us, which instantly made us feel very relieved and welcomed. Not only did she show us on her ipad where we were and where we needed to go to our hotel, she actually walked us there...incredible! Five star service, above and beyond the call of duty!
As we were staying in Osaka for three days, we were then very confident of finding our way around.
There is everything you could possibly want at JR Osaka Station...I guess that's why it's one of my favourites.

This place is so big that you can get lost at times, we chance upon this station when we were looking for the Pokemon center in Daimaru. Luckily they have customer service center where you can get maps or ask for directions. Its situated right outside the ticket gates. There are many tracks in this stations, we always to go Track No.1 , Yumesaki Line direct to Universal City via Nishikujo station.

Osaka Station City is the largest train station in Osaka and is the main hub for train connections and buses. There's plenty of shopping stores within and food places to dine at. You could literally spend a whole day at this station and still not finish touring it. Plus, if you're ever thinking on staying in Osaka, there are plenty of hotels nearby this station.

The station consists of two main buildings: North Gate Building and South Gate Building.

The North Building contains a department store, a shopping mall and cinemas . The South Building also contains a department store, and a 5 star hotel (Hotel Granvia Osaka). Then, the building complex is connected to several subway stations (there are different subway systems in Osaka), and another two (or three?) large department stores. Fantastic, I’ve never seen such a huge commercial, shopping and recreation spot.

The North yard is a modern and beautiful place, don’t miss it.

For a first-time tourist, to walk on the ground floor (1st floor of Asian and American scheme) when getting off the train is highly recommended. You are very easy to get lost in the complicated underground pathways.

Another important thing is: It is not always the top of a map points to the north in the Station City. I’ve seen "North at the right side" of some maps in the Osaka Station City. Tourists are easily confused due to this condition. So, make sure the correct directions when referring to the maps in the mall.

A massive place with an equal number of people crisscrossing. If you are anywhere near a station exit / entrance when a train arrives you can see the swathes of people heading out or in. and you better be going in the same direction, crossing over can be sometimes difficult.

I made a bee line to the information counter to find out about this massive building and as usual the Japanese are very very polite and courteous.

Was our starting/end point to visit Kobe on the JR line. If you love shopping or trains this is one place you should go to.

The best thing about this place is a Belgian waffle stand in one corner (Manneken) if you can spare a few mins, go find it to sample some good waffles.
