I stay in YY38 again in Oct 2010, in fact this is my 3rd time checking into this hotel.. My first stay was in Oct 2009, 2nd stay was in Dec 2009, I found that the cleanliness still maintain, security with keycard is superb, services from the staff are friendly and helpful. They do maintain a very good hospitality services. I really don't understand why there are so many bad review on trip advisor???

Furthermore, there is a carrefore convenient store at the ground floor of this hotel, which is so convenient to us. hot & cold water dispenser is available on each floor, which is free of charge. Most impressive is Free WiFi. This is not available during my stay in dec 2009, this shows that the hotel management do keep improving themselves in giving good services to all their guests.

Room charge of rm120 per night is really value for money. I definitely will come back again.

Further to my last review I can confirm that the standard has been maintained. Same old gripe though, no safe box in room thus had to disturb management and staff daily to gain access to the hotel secure facility but it was no trouble for them. Efficient and friendly management and staff.

I stayed her en route home to Manila from Siem Reap. We were 4 pax and booked 2 Standard Queen Rooms. On the way to SR, we stayed overnight at Cube Hotel a few minutes walk away, however found the rooms too small. For just a few RM more, the rooms at YY38 are larger and more comfortable.

PROs:
Location - Tengkat Tong Shin is parallel to Jalan Alor and just a short walk to Bukit Bintang. There's a convenience store on the ground floor and lots of dining options just steps away.
Security/Safety - You need to use a keycard in the elevator to get to your floor, so non-keycard holders can't just enter the guest floors.
Price - RM 120/night is cheaper than even some guesthouses/hostels of questionable cleanliness/safety.
Comfort - Rooms were no frills but clean. Everything (TV, shower, a/c) worked. Free mineral water from a dispenser on each floor. Rooms were cleaned daily.

CONs:
Service - was a bit slow. We asked for extra drinking glasses, but never got them. Front desk was not too friendly.
Deposit despite full payment - 2 of us were only staying 1 night, and 2 of us were staying 2 nights. We paid for both rooms in full upon check in, but were asked for an extra RM 80 for the overnight room, and RM 60 for the room that was booked 2 nights. Strange, I've stayed in lots of places in the past and they only asked for a deposit if you weren't paying for the room in full upon check in. Anyway, the amount was refunded upon check out.
Bathroom - size was ok, but the shower curtain was too short to protect the sink and toilet area from getting wet. No mildew (yet) but could use with a good scrubbing.

If you like staying in your room, then you might want to look for something more posh. However, if you just want a safe, clean place to go home to after days of shopping, sight seeing, then this place works just fine. I would stay here again.

Don't understand the bad reviews about this place. Sure there was a little noise as a result of there being no carpets but this meant I found it cleaner with no musty carpet smell as with many budget hotels.Always had a good banter with the management and staff who were very obliging. Only draw back was no safe in room but overcome by using deposit boxes under staff lock and key. If you spend your holidy in a hotel then this is not suitable, but if you want a base from which to see this part of Msia it's ideal. Will be there again for two weeks in September. I hope it hasn't changed since March!

We arrived in Kuala Lumpur without having pre booked accomodation. After looking at a few places nearby, which were of similar price but alot less clean and with shared facilities we decided to stay at yy38. The rooms, although small, are extremely clean and comfortable. There is hot and cold water for drinking avialable.Excellent location for the
nearby shopping malls and is only a 15-20 minute walk to Chinatown and central market. The nearby hawker street has the most delicous selection of food and very reasonable prices. There is also a shop underneath the hotel which has all the essentials.

It's central location is not enough to make me recommend this "new" hotel to anybody traveling to KL. Room was small but adequate, looked modern enough on first look. On second look once we had paid for the room, we found bugs crawling across the bathroom and a few in our sheets. Worst part was the noise. Hallways echo everything that happens, magnifies voices in halls and doors slamming at odd hours and early in the morning. Try the Allson Genesis across the street, we had checked it out first for aprox. the same price, should've stayed there instead for the money we paid.
