This is on the whole a marvellous hotel. As you'd expect from a JW in a big capital city like KL, it's grand and you lack nothing. Staff are excellent, room was very nice, if a little "old school" ie not modern, but still very pleasant.
Very nice club room for breakfast, drinks etc if you have a Marriott Platinum card.
Didn't use the pool, spa etc but looks very nice.
I get free wifi with my Marriott card, but I think it might be free in the public areas anyway, not sure. However, while the wifi is fast in the public area it felt like dial-up in the room; incredibly slow, and unacceptable in a place as wired as KL is generally. Needs improvement.
The hotel is attached to a huge, multi-level, very high-end shopping mall if you're into your designer labels.
Best feature of the hotel, but also the strangest, is the restaurant complex below the ground floor. Fantastic selection of 13 restaurants (highly recommend the Vietnamese one - superb food, despite the gaudy images on the menu - do yourself a favour guys, get yourselves some professional photos done) plus bars, tea shop etc. The layout, though, is really strange compared to the rest of the hotel - very odd, but attractive in a strange way. Difficult to describe but is an architectural mish-mash of rustic and plush, wood and stone, dark corners and crazy steps and floor surfaces, interesting lighting everywhere. The weirdest thing of all is one of the bathrooms. I think there are two, and one is more traditional than the other. That one, the strange one, though, is really worth checking out for yourself and is like nothing I've ever been in (I can only speak for the men's). It's like a cave, very dimly lit, with stone walls, maze-like corridors and a water system for washing your hands where there's a guy who pumps the water from a big, wooden overhead system that looks like something from a medieval well... In a dungeon! Come to think of it, a dungeon must have been the inspiration. One of the most curious (but weirdly engaging) visits to a hotel toilet I've ever had. Can't quite believe I'm saying this in a hotel review, but check it out! (Make sure you find the right one). I'm going to search through other reviews for mention of this place, because it really is something!
All in all this hotel is very highly recommended.
