Had 5 days at this hotel after 2 weeks on the go. Staff helpful and service excellent. You must try the restaurant at the hotel. We had a seafood smorgasbord and it was truly fabulous. As for the deserts they were certainly the talking point of our trip. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra to get a good room, it will certainly be worth it in the long run. Room overlook...

I stay here regularly and now have a few friends from UK; Australia and France who also now make it their regular KL hotel.
It's listed as a 4 star on some sites and a 5 star on others. I have stayed in a couple of fancier hotels in KL but to be fair the Istana should qualify as 5 stars at 4 star prices. The position is superb being a short walk to the mono-rail station and a short walk to the main shopping plazas and the fun of Bukit Bintang. The pool area is good for a city hotel, BUT the loungers are past their scrap date. I was told they were about to be replaced but I remembered I was told that last year! I'll soon find out as I'm going back in March.
Rooms are excellent - I've read about things not working but I have never had a room with a fault other than the shower pouring water under the door onto the bathroom floor and I've stayed there for about 20 weeks over the past 4 years.
The restaurants are very good. There is a classy western style silver service restaurant and it's best to look for nights where they have deals - I always take a few bottles of decent wine to KL and they do allow you to take your own wine in - massive bonus! The bigger restaurant is a buffet affair and mega value for money if you ask for a two for one voucher which the staff will usually give you in advance! There is sports bar and a large open foyer bar which is quiet and comfortable for business meetings and needless to say, the staff are excellent. I have also been able to check out but leave one or two cases there for a week or so while I went off on business which has been a huge bonus. As I said, the staff are very helpful and friendly. The business centre is free to use if you have a suite but they are helpful for small things like doing the odd copy or allowing you to print docs from a USB etc whether you are in a suite or not. NOTE - INTERNET USE IS A RIP OFF PRICE - GET A DIGI SIM AND USE YOUR SMARTPHONE OR USB DONGLE INSTEAD!

Room Tip: If you really want a view of the towers just ask for one! The Club Suites are good and give you acc...

Walking distance to twin towers and shopping area's. Breakfast buffet was excellent.
Hotel staff very courteous ,pleasant and helpfull. Management & staff were thoughfull of sending us flowers and fruit basket when my wife was not well due a slight cold, which was very much appreciated.

Room Tip: a vieuw of twin towers.

Had two days at this Hotel. We usually stay at the Prince and I wish we had stayed there. I was so disappointed with the standard of our room and would have checked out if I hadn't yet paid for it.

While the foyer is very impressive the room certainly wasn't. We were apparently upgraded to a Club Room. I can only imagine what the 'normal' rooms are like!

While the room was large it was definitely in need of a renovation. The carpet was very old and while it probably wasn't dirty, it certainly looked it. Bathroom is extremely tired, years of ingrown mould was very unappealing and grotty.

The pool area needs a bit of work. While the pool itself is nice, the pool lounges need to be replaced. They seemed to be stained by mould and are really old and uncomfortable. The change area around the pool is false advertising. It is just a toilet with a basin basically. You were hard pressed to be able to change and then had the worry that someone would walk in while you were changing. There was no separate area to change, had to do it in front of the hand basin and there was no shower in the 'change room'.

On the plus side, the bed was extremely comfortable and pillows fantastic. Unfortunately that isn't enough to make me return.

Room Tip: Book another hotel

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. Very centrally located, close to Pavillian, Bukit Butang and the monorail. The lobby is large and has a great atmosphere. The staff are friendly. We had a room overlooking the twin towers, and it was definitely worth the extra $, the towers look stunning at night! Would definitely stay at Istana again.

Room Tip: Higher floors which have a view of the twin towers

Everybody serves you with a big smile in his / her face and takes care of you in the best possible way.The breakfast at theClub Lounge was excellent even after having my breakfast they made me a beautiful omelette. Along with great facilities the Hotel is in a perfect location for all your needs.

Though I spent 4 days at Istana hotel, the friendly environment and the worm greetings from the hotel staff made this place feels like home and that you belong there. Everybody serves you with a big smile in his / her face and takes care of you in the best possible way. Along with great facilities, perfect location and excellent food choices, Istana is a place where you can spend weeks without getting bored. The only downside I faced at the hotel was the old furniture at the club room, although you'll kind of forget about this once you get to explore all the wonderful features of this hotel. And regardless of how old the furniture was, the room was super clean and spotless. It was a great experience and I wont hesitate to stay there again or recomend this place to whoever goes to KL.
