Just a little comment, if this hotel can provide a free WIFI at the lobby or in the room. Other than that, this hotel is superb.

Busy area but offering good connectivity...by walking to monorail station will bring you to shopping mall, Al-bukhary mosque etc. There's a nice local Indonesian cuisine restaurant near by as well. The rate a little bit expensive but overall value for money.

Room Tip: Easy reach to a mosque

Excellent service, rooms, everything. Very happy with this. Ideal location just a hop across to the monorail. Easy walk to the main shopping centres, twin towers, KL tower, food courts. Definitely deserves 5 star rating.

No wifi, noisy rooms (you can hear everything the neighbors say), poor swimming pool, lifeless rooms.

The location is very good, but you can find so much better hotels around. This one is very old, and has no soul at all, no decoration, it looks like an old hotel from the 70s.

Staff is nice though, but that's pretty much it.

Stayed for one night with my family. Had booked a Deluxe room with king bed on Expedia. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been upgraded to a suite room.

The room was in great condition - clean, walls, paint etc good condition, clean bedsheets and towels. So what's stopping me from giving the hotel a perfect 5 (I would actually rate it 3.5 rather than 4, if rating can be given in decimals)? Here are things that I would have liked to see better -

1. The toiled flush was to underpowered to send the contents on the way forward. The lever had to be pushed and held in position for half a minute until the vortex generated had enough power to push the contents down the hole.

2. The mini fridge in the room was not working. I called the house keeping guy who promptly switched on some small obscure switch inside (which was hardly visible and had no markings) and the fridge turned on. If there's a fridge in the room, why the hell can't they keep it on before they turn over the room to the guest?

3. The electric kettle in the room was not working. I could only find that out the next morning when I tried to make my cup of tea. Since we had to check out, I saw no point in calling the house keeping and asking for a replacement.

I had stayed at Istana several times some 10 years ago and it was a fantastic hotel back then. I seems to have gone downhill in some aspects. I will probably look for a different hotel next time.

This is the third time we have stayed at the Istana and we were not disappointed. We always choose a club room as the experience in the Club Lounge on the 20th floor is excellent. We arrive at 11.00pm and are escorted straight up to the Club Lounge where we are checked in as a priority guest and within 10 minutes we are all checked in with our baggage arriving just as we do to our room. Every evening in the Club Lounge from 5.30pm you are treated to 2 hours of complimentary wines, spirits and soft drinks with a great choice of canapés including hot dishes and breads, cheese and fruits. It is a lovely way to unwind from your busy day and discuss where you are going to dinner, that is if you are still hungry!
Breakfast in the club lounge is also included and the range of fruit, yogurts, and cereals, along with a range of breads are more than enough with tea and coffee service at your pleasure. We also have an omlette with potato wedges and tomatoes – all hot dishes included too. Who Needs lunch after this!
Our deluxe club room is just lovely and very spacious. Internet in our room is extremely fast and complimentary. Our room is on quiet and the king size bed is hard to get out of it is so comfortable! The range of bathroom products is great and the standard of cleanliness is first class.
The pool is great and perfect for lapping with bar service if you wish. One day we were offered large chunks of very cold watermelon as we were chilling out on the sun lounges, again a nice touch.
The location is superb with the monorail just 2 blocks away. What really makes a difference here is the friendliness of the staff – something you will not always experience at a 5 star hotel. The door staff is just so welcoming and there is always a fleet of taxis ready for you and they are so cheap in KL and rate charges are very strictly controlled. We needed to post some gifts back home and the concierge was so helpful and packaged it all up and then sent a copy of the consignment note via email. These are the things you remember.
There is an Indian restaurant in the hotel well worth trying for an incredible range of North Indian dishes and the room service menu is very good. The Istana will continue be our hotel of choice in KL whilst it maintains such a high standard all with a smile.

Room Tip: Book a club room and ask for a view of Petronas Towers
