Recently stayed here and thought the hotel size was overwhelmingly large - very conference oriented. The service was good but nothing spectacular, wasn't quite up to the usual Mandarin Oriental standard. The rooms were nice but a bit outdated, feel they could do with a bit of a facelift. Brilliant location, next to Petronas Towers. Great breakfast buffet and one of the best steaks I've had in South East Asia at The Grill. Definitely stay there but perhaps there's no need to go for the most expensive rooms because there are better for the same prices.

OK I had just come from a spa hotel in N Thailand, and another lovely hotel in Bangkok, where they sat me down to register and brought me awelcome drink, called me by name and made me feel welcome. Here, I had to move my stuff along a huge counter in the middle of the welcome drink which was like ribena. I had been in my room 10 mins when someone came to do an inventory of the minibar (not surprising when I saw the prices. but come on how welcoming is that?) Also beware, the price for a classy hotel room is reasonable but it's £15 for internet and huge prices for very inferior food at the poolside bar. But the setting is magical, and the cocktail in the lounge was accompanied by the dreamiest live music, so I forgive them the rather starchy approach. I think I would try somewhere else next time however.

Room Tip: High up with a view over park or twin towers would be my choice.

Dear Camberleyannie

We regret to note your less than satisfactory check-in and my sincere apologies for the negative impression reflected upon your arrival at the hotel, and the unfortunate timing of the minibar restocking. Remedial action will be taken to improve our service levels at both areas.

In reference to the provision of complimentary WiFi service, I am pleased to share that due to the high costs of quality bandwidth in Kuala Lumpur, most hotels charges for WiFi accordingly. Guests who choose to stay on our Club Floors do receive complimentary internet access. On this note, our hotel provides by far, the highest level of bandwidth in the city and once logged in, you may use up to 6 devices on your account. Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has recently launched an initiative in regard to WiFi costs whereby all bookings made via our website are inclusive of free WiFi for all the various packages available on our website.

We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel again in the near future, for a more memorable stay.

Kind regards

This was our first stay at a Mandarin Oriental and we enjoyed the experience although were not as wowed as we expected to be.

The Hotel is very centrally located and convenient for everywhere you need to be. Our room was a good size and, although well maintained, was dated in terms of furnishings and décor with an excess of brown, green and mustard in the colour scheme. Despite its look the room was very comfortable. The in-room fruit bowl comprised two tired-looking oranges which was rather sad, but apart from that the room was well stocked and welcoming.

The pool area is not as large as we had hoped but it's good enough for a day or so and the spa was spacious if rather sparsely furnished.

The highlight of our stay was breakfast which included a huge array of food choices and some great freshly cooked dishes. Wait staff were efficient if rather charmless and there seemed to be a huge number of supervisors here talking amongst themselves and ignoring the guests. Check-in and check-out was friendly and efficient.

Overall a very comfortable and pleasant stay but, other than the breakfast, we experienced nothing at the Mandarin Oriental that in our view sets this hotel aside from other 5 star properties in KL.

Attended a wedding and stayed two nights at this hotel
ON 1/19/14 AND 1/20/14
food was excellent, especially at the banquet, but...

-my room is filthy and disgusting....the blanket is old and worn out and bed sheet has a big hole
on it
-shower room is dirty, full of black soap scum on the grout
-carpet needs shampooing
made a complaint to the hotel right away
next day, the situation was rectified
the GM apologized and offered two nights of complimentary stay
at one of the suites on my next visit, or a complimentary dinner
(nice gesture, but I was not looking for freebies).
I think, regardless how tight the hotel budget is
the condition of the living environment of the travelers
should be given the first priority.

Room Tip: Location: the traffic is always congested around the hotel cleanliness, food & service

Don't get me wrong, this hotel is amazing, and I particularly liked the view from our room, the buffet breakfast and the grandeur of the lobby, but I think for a 5-star hotel and for one of the best hotels in Malaysia, it was not up to scratch. I feel like this for two reasons - firstly the rooms were a bit outdated - the bathroom doors had no locks and there was an air of mass-manufacture about them. When my friend tried to use the iron it began leaking hot water and scalded his hand. Secondly, and most unfortunately was the quality of their additional beds. We had booked for 5 people in two connecting rooms, and had paid for a third person in the one room. But the extra bed they provided was nothing more than a trundle bed; it was basically on the floor and as hard as a rock, and didn't even come with a pillow. What a disgrace for a 5 star hotel!

Room Tip: Don't bother paying for an additional bed. Sleeping on the floor would be more comfortable.
