Hotel China Town Inn
Ranked #112 of 349 Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Reviewed 31 March 2012

We are frequent travelers to Kuala Lumpur and we have stayed at this hotel many times.

The hotel represents excellent value. The rooms are of a reasonable size and are cleaned daily. Fresh bedlinen and towels are also provided daily. The airconditioning is fine though the lift moves with glacial speed.

Staff are very helpful and friendly, prepared to share a laugh with travelers.

A laundry service is available although we have never tried it and there is no restaurant although this is hardly a handicap in the centre of Chinatown. A good cheap breakfast can be obtained a few doors down at the Swiss Inn.

Basically a civilised and friendly place but the major attraction is its central location. The main long-haul bus station (Pudu Sentral) is within 10 minutes easy walk. Pasar Seni railway station is only a few hundred metres away and the nearest monorail station (Maharajalela) is about 800 metres straight down Petaling street.

There are two 24 hour stores within 5 minutes walk (KK stores) and a large supermarket (Mydin) only 10 minute's stroll away.

Many things to see and do in the area. Mariamman Temple is 2 mins away if you take a shortcut through the wet market (entrance directly opposite hotel) and close to this Hindu Temple are three Chinese Temples including a 'hidden' one on Jalan H.S. Lee.

Shopping in Petaling street (if you're brave) after about 4pm or at Central Market (10 a.m. 'till late) about 600 metres away.

Enjoy - we do!

Room Tip: 3rd and 4th floors are a little quieter. Chinatown can be a noisy place until about 9.30 pm

Being right in the middle of Chinatown, location is great.

Room was OK. Not very clean, but for the price, no complaint.
Our room was very close to lobby, so it was little noisy sometimes. Wifi in room was pretty fast as hotel Internet. I could watch youtube without much buffering.

Very old simple TV, but they had HBO.

Staff at front desk is unfriendly, and won't go any extra mile to serve you.

Room Tip: Room far from front desk might be more quiet, but for fast WiFi, might be good idea to get the one c...

We spent 10 nights at this Hotel from 25 January to 04 February 2012, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
We were up on the third floor at the rear of the Hotel. We could still hear the street noises, but with foamy ear plugs in place, no noises and we both had sound sleeps.
The room was huge, with a large window. For the price we paid it was more than adequate for us. Clean and tidy. Everything worked well. Didn't even turn the TV on for our time here, so we can't comment on this. After all, if I wanted to watch TV I'd stay home and watch it.
The hotel fronted directly onto Jalan Petaling, one of the main shopping/hawkers stall streets in Chinatown. At night, vehicular traffic is blocked and out come more hawkers and food stalls. It was great to walk up and down and see all the merchandise being sold. We ignored the usual touts, and they were not overly agressive.
The hotel is within a 7 minute walk to the Pasar Seni LRT station, and from there you can explore most of KL.
This is a very good budget hotel in the heart of Chinatown, and we highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the rear of the Hotel from the third floor and above. You'll still get some st...

Thw room without window was good, we know this and it was not bad. Fan was good and rooms are inside the house, so they were not hot at all.
Toilet and bathroom were ok, and the situation of the hotel was nice.
There is Mc Donald´s in the near of hotel so you can eat breakfast there :)

Room Tip: Windowless rooms are NOT hot, fan is enough ( in the June)

The room was a big disappointment, the photos fooled us badly. The room was very small and worned, only new thing in the room was one painted wall. Sheets and the whole room smelled cigarette smoke. You could hear every sound from the other rooms and hallway. Plus there were no hairdryer or ironing facilities as mentioned!

The staff were unhelpful - and at times downright rude. They couldn't even produce a map of the city for me - or any tourist literature. The hotel is incredibly difficult to find if you arrive at night after the markets have opened - as it is hidden behind the stalls. The street is off limits to cars when the market is operating - so the taxi will drop you a distance away. The room was clean - however my choice to not pay extra for air conditioning or a window was not wise. It was very difficult to get to sleep with just the fan - and no air flow from outside. The noise of guests arriving and leaving during the night also kept me awake - the walls were very thin. The Swiss Inn down the street has good food - and if I stayed for any longer in KL I would have moved here, or anywhere else I could! Not recommended at all.
