Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Ranked #55 of 350 Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Reviewed 23 July 2014

The hotel is located at an OK location, closed to LRT Ampang Station. Convenient for those who seek to commute in KL. The hotel room is average and somehow rather, I got a room with wired LAN connection - didn't know this type of room still exists in a "4 star" hotel. All in all, the room is quite clean and the buffet breakfast is OK.

Room Tip: Make sure you specify WIFI needed if you want room with this facility....

I will like to start with I am a hospitality industry professional and the review is nothing but a true and genuine, personally I felt that the hotel has a lack of supervision.

I arrived on July 8th. My mom and I chose this hotel due to the location we wanted something close to Petronas Towers.

The first night was a complete night mare. The sheets, cover pillows and pillows smelled terrible a dirty smell.

Our internet user name and password didn't work. We called the first time and the guy in front desk told us he would check what happened and give us a call back.

After 45 min no one called. I called again he said the same I waited unti 3:30 am NO ONE CALLED BACK !!!

The bathroom was full with MOLD !!!!! Mold in the faucet, in the shower in the showe tiles. MOLD EVERYWHERE Just disgusting. !!!
A very unhealthy environment for any person.

We complain about it and they wanted to change us to another room. I ask If I can see it before and it was worse !!!!
All the walls in the room were dirty.

About no one calling back the Manager told maybe because it was late at night they couldn't figure out, I told him at least they could have called and say that instead of keeping us wating for their call back.

So we decided to stay in the fist one the only thing that they did was put some aroma on the pillows.

I will not recommend this hotel at all.

It was very unpleasant to see that people certainly are not doing their job not Housekeeping, Mintenance, and obviously their work has not been supervised.

My Housekeeping team uses a magic chemical called Bleach.
BLEACH is used as a disinfectant and kills mold.

I told the Manager to tell the Housekeeping Manger to use it.
And they need a lot of supervising.

They can not give a dirty room to any guest definitely is not a 4 star hotel I would give them a 2 star rating.

Its a shame cause the location is good, but good customer service and cleanness has to be evey type of accommodation no matter is it's a 3 4, 5 star hotel rating. Its just the way is should be.

Stayed with family for two nights. You can not ask for anything better as far as location is concerned. Just five minute walk for the iconic PETRONAS and KLCC. We were accommodated on fifth floor with partial view of the PETRONAS from the window. I believe the view would have been much better on higher floors. If you are planning to stay here ask specifically for Tower view rooms. Hotel is OK for the price. They have all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Check in and check out are efficient and took hardly a couple of minutes if you inform them a bit in advance. Overall a pleasant stay. Recommended for mid range travellers.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms with Tower view.

This hotel is pretty good for 2 or 3 days. It is a 5 minute walk to the Petronas Towers and Avenue K shopping centre. The road is a little noisy at night, but we still slept ok. There are a few local eateries across the road, and we often went to Avenue K for dinner and the 7-11 for small supplies. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was standard fare of toast, cereals, fruit, rice and noodles, and the egg station was great. The area was very busy every morning and with lots of people eating at the same time, it was a bit of a maze getting food from the buffet to the tables, but it sufficed. The cutlery was an issue each day - either having to ask for it or take some from another table. We had a swim in the pool which had great sun lounges and a fab view of the towers. Overall we enjoyed our stay here.

Stayed in the hotel for 1 night. Paid around 100 USD for 1 room.
Hotel is conveniently located in the city center (very close to the Petronas towers).
Yet, the reception was quite unfriendly, the rooms need urgent refurbishing and the amenities (using a computer downstairs to print out a boarding pass will cost you 1 ringit - 1 minute).
It is not value for money hotel (you can find better options in KL).
I would not recommend it unless you like old the 1980s style hotels.

I have not stayed before in this place but I would like to drop a review on the Ming Palace Restaurant located in Corus Hotel.

I went there for the all you can eat ala carte buffet and it works by way of ordering the dishes on the list provided by the restaurant. Food wise, it is quite good and the outlook of the food is great as well. But the main problem for the restaurant is the type of services provided by the waitress.

We had 9 adults and 2 toddlers to our table. We are fine with big portion of food given (although this means lesser opportunity to try out other food since we had to polish up the big portion of food given). But when we requested for 2-3 dishes (out of the more than 10 dishes we ordered) to be in smaller portion (maybe 5 adults size) because not everyone would like to eat those dishes, we were greeted by the waitress (Ms Irene) with 'We only serve standard sizing to all customers as you see our restaurant is very busy and our cook do not have the time to do portions to your liking'.

How absurd this is? Then what happens to those that come in like 4-5 ppl per table? They have to be forced to have 10 person portion then? Mind you, we were there for almost 3 hours and in total, they only have 5 tables to serve up until 930pm (their last call for the 'buffet'). We have got no choice but to retort her by saying that it is ok to serve us that portion then if this is their way of doing business but we will not be held responsible by way of fine for food wastage if we were not able to finish the dishes just because they refused to make it to a smaller portion for us. Only towards the end of the course that they made it to smaller portion on certain dishes after us repeatedly reminding the many different waitresses that took our order.

Teas were also not refilled at many times and we had to do it ourselves. Not that we mind such thing but if most of the waitresses can spend time chattering away with only 5 tables to serve in such big restaurant, they ought to take some initiative in improving their services.

The other thing that patrons to this restaurant would need to take note if you have more than 1 toddler that requires baby high chair - the waitress will tell you that they cannot give you the number of baby chairs requested (in our case 2 baby high chairs) as they have limited baby chairs and they have to reserve it to other customers when we requested for a second baby high chair. Another absurd thing to be done by the restaurant. How are the parents supposed eat if they cannot place their toddlers of less than 3 years of age on the baby high chair? Btw, we were the only family with toddlers that required the baby high chair for the whole night.

This place really serves food that are slightly better than average but is being scarred by really bad services offered by the waitress in the restaurant.

this hotel needs refurbishing and multiple upgrades, a fact that applies to the rooms, furnishings, food, meeting space, staff...everything Corus-hotel related.
Until this happens, you really don't have to stay there.
