“Peaceful haven!”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

The gardens themselves are beautiful and huge. Within the gardens you can also find the Bird Park, Butterfly Park, Deer Park, Planetarium, Hibiscus and Orchid Gardens, and plenty of great picnic spots. There is a small cart that drives around the gardens offerinf tranportation to various parts of the gardens but considering the size if the gardens, more transportation options would be great.

“If you have just a day at KL, spend it here!”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Located in the heart of the city, Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens is home to many of the city's most popular tourist attractions. It is far and away the largest "green lung" of KL. While the KL Lake Gardens used to be known as Taman Tasik Perdana, in mid 2011 the park was officially renamed Taman Botani Perdana. At KL Lake Gardens the only problem one is likely to have is how much there is to see and do.

Here one can see the National Monument, a bronze statue that serves as a war memorial to those who died defending Malaysia. At the foot of the National Monument is the Asean Sculpture Garden - six sculptures of stainless steel, glass, marble and bamboo made by Asean nation sculptors, from the days when the Asean was only 6 countries.

These Gardens are a veritable paradise for nature lovers. Some of the highlights include conservatory garden, herb garden, rare forest trees, fernarium, cycads and bamboo collections. There are also activity areas, children's playgrounds, large lakes and rejuvenating jogging paths.

The Police Museum located here offers free admission and is well worth the visit. The Mouse-deer and Deer Park are also located here. The mouse deer are very shy and you will be lucky if you are able to get a good photo.

You can also visit the Orchid Park (Taman Orkid) and Hibiscus Garden (Taman Bunga Raya) here. The hibiscus (bunga raya) is the national flower of Malaysia. (Please see my reviews of the Orchid Park and the Hibiscus Garden)

The magnificent Islamic Arts Museum here is nowhere near as popular as it deserves to be, although the entrance ticket is quite reasonably priced. (Please see my review of the Islamic Arts Museum).

Here also is the justifiably well renowned KL Bird Park claimed to be the world's largest free flight aviary - a ticketed attraction with an adult admission fee of RM 48 - open 9am to 6pm on all days.

Nearby is the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park where thousands of butterflies fly in lush tropical surroundings under a giant net. This also is a ticketed attraction - adult entrance fee is RM 20.

Right at the heart of the Lake Gardens is the Tun Abdul Razak Memorial which strangely and sadly does not draw many tourists, perhaps because there are so many other more "exciting" attractions close by. Admission to the memorial is free. Built in Californian style, "Sri Taman" is the former official residence of the late Tun Abdul Razak, the second Prime Minister of Malaysia. A popular Prime Minister, he was known as the Father of Development.

Sri Taman is a tasteful house done up in fine style - the legacy of a man who lived a good life in more ways than one. This villa offers mute testimony to the gracious life style of a much loved man of many accomplishments. At the back of the memorial one can see a model of the Rumah Felda - modest pre-fabricated homes for low income families popularized by the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).

Also in the vicinity are the National Planetarium (Planetarium Negara), and a little further away, the National Museum (Muzium Negara).

Relaxing here, breathing deeply of the fresh air, it is a strange realization that this serene, green haven called Taman Botani Perdana in the heart of busy KL is just walking distance from the bustle of Dataran Merdeka , Pasar Seni and Petaling Street! With so many wonderful attractions all cheek by jowl, if you have just a day at KL, spend it here!

“Best part of KL!!!”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

it's by far my most favorite part of KL city.
Lovely park with a lot of activities around it, including Bird and Butterfly parks, Planetarium, Islamic and National Museum, and many other attractions.
you can get there by using the Hop-on Hop-off bus, which has few stops around the park, or get to Kuala Lumpur station and walk from there to National Mosque, which is at the edge of the park.
better to bring some water with you, as there are not much shops around there and the park is quiet big.
overall its a MUST for any tourist visiting KL
