we visited this restaurant 2 days ago to celebrate New Year Eve. We came in a group of 7.
We choosed this restaurant seeing that the Chef has won a few awards, mentioned in a few blogs.
When we first step in, the environment is very nice, looks very classy and etc. We are ushered into a private dining room. But thats all to it. Nothing more than that.
We were forced to take their custom NYE full set menu at RM180++, claiming to be the Chef's best dishes of 2013. (another disappointment)
So, our waiter asked if we wanted mineral water or sparkling water, we did asked for ONE water. Somehow the waiter (indonesian) wasnt able to comprehend what we wanted and assume we wanted the mineral water. So he poured mineral water for us as much as possible.
After he finish the first bottle of mineral water, the waiter did not have the courtesy of asking us IF we wanted another bottle of water. He just decided on his own, and open another bottle.
We were happily chatting with among our friends that we did not take notice of his doing till the 3rd bottle came. Out of curiousity we asked if the water is free since he poured for us like it's free. He said no, it's paid, we asked how much and he replied he doesnt know and have to checked.
Later he came back and told us it's RM20 per bottle, and asked him to stop. later we asked the assistant manager (Nadia) to confirm the price, she said it's RM28 per bottle.
We were very unhappy, as their waiter (Sonny) could not give us an accurate figure. Then we asked if Nadia could she do us a favor by waiving away 2 bottles, since we did not asked them to open extra. She gave us excuses that they could only waive 1 bottle, and if they were to waive extra, it has to come from their own pocket. And she told us that it's Aqua Pana mineral water, priced at RM28 per bottle, that 3 bottle cost us easily RM84. It sure did feel like an easy way to con money.
We insisted that the mineral water has to be waived as we did not order them. We asked for water, but they gave us Mineral Water instead. Definitely we would not bear the cost of it.
Normally these fine dining restaurants would willingly offer to waive them since it is their mistake but not for this restaurant. Nadia gave us an unhappy look and replied me in a very rude way. "Fine, i will waive the bottles if that would make you happy" and just storm off with the receipt. This is totally unprofessional for a fine dining restaurant.
On top of that, their food is mediocre. I had better steaks in Jake's, better treatment from Erawan, Favola at Le Meridien, Marini57, all these i had better experience and nicer food as well.
And their wine has a weird looking sediment at the base of my friends glass. Our waiter (Sonny) quickly tried to take it away. trying to hide proof or something. but we did not gave it to him, and took pictures of the sediment. they claimed it to be a Wine sediment from the grapes, but it surely did not look like one. Initially, they were reluctant to replace our wine, but after we insisted, they unwillingly replaced for us. Is this a 5 Star Restaurant? I sincerely doubt
I totally would stay away from this restaurant.
WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT ANYMORE.
PS: Iskandar, the Manager said we could go upstairs to celebrate NYE and have a free flow of Sangria beer, since we are guest of Grill 582, after we have paid, and i enquire again to confirm it is free, the other manager deny it and say we have to pay RM70++ for ONE GLASS of sangria beer, and no free flow.
What a total lousy restaurant. Lies everywhere.
Stay away. Con Restaurant. What an unhappy way to end our 2013. :(
