Tupai Tupai Restaurant & Cafe is a restaurant in a Malay Kampung style setting that serves predominantly Malay food. They also have Chinese and Western dishes and reviews I’d read online say they are pretty good. However, I was there to sample their “nasi lauk” or rice with dishes.

Lunch buddy had rice with chicken cooked with chilli, daging masak kicap (beef slices cooked with soy sauce) and four angled beans cooked with belacan and dried shrimp.

At night, they have a steamboat buffet for RM28 per person. I might try that some day because I saw a lot of fish on the menu! Will report back if I do try.

I’m not sure how to direct you there because its easy to miss. Best call them up and see if they can do it. Its located near Jalan Dewan Bahasa opposite the MAA Building. As you come to the fork take the road on the right leading towards Jalan Bukit Petaling, and immediately keep right – Tupai Tupai Restaurant has free parking and its immediately around the corner so make sure you don’t miss it!

Love the concept, love the food, love the dessert especially the yummy trifle. I normally come during lunch time and have the option to order ala carte or choose from the many options at the buffet table.

This huge traditional malay restaurant tucked in what's left of green near the golden triangle,Tupai-Tupai (means squirrels) is not easy to spot and that's the beauty of it. It remains one of the few places where entire malay families flock-in by dawn for a kampung-style makan. Since 2-3 years it also serve "stimbot", catering for the wealthier chinese community. Best tables are 4 logia on the left side of the main dining room for a rain-forest feel, but -beware - you cannot book in advance as they work on a first come first serve basis. Tip: try the trifles but be sure you order them along with your main order as they are selling like hot cake. Tip 2: they will charge you extra if you order too much and don't finish your meal and will never push you to take the larger portions, on the contrary. This alone worth the detour.

Tupai-tupai Restaurant has a few outlets - behind DBP, Ampang Waterfront and Bangi. They offer
a) ala carte - at all time
b) buffet - lunch time
c) steam boat - night only

The only outlet I have been to is behind DBP and had been there couple of times and every time I had my meal there, I enjoyed it very much. My favourite dishes are prawn with coconut water and fish with black pepper sauce.

Beside the foods, I like the concept of the restaurant (behind DBP), an open air.

They also offer steam boat buffet with varieties of choices but only at night and ensure you make a reservation especially end of the month. They are super pack.

The price is a bit extra from other places but the quality of food they served is marvellous.

No harm trying if you are a food lover...
