Athamaa Palace is one of the oldest hotels in Male and it shows.
It's at the main street, in the heart of the capital island - a superb location and could be a marvellous location for a smart little boutique hotel! The rooms are spacious, what I really like, with a TV and plenty of Hindi and some good English satellite programs. Huge wardrobes to store luggage and clothes, a big mirror with a long table, 2 chairs, a side table beside the beds, AC and fan, tiled floors. But all as well as the attached bathroom needs an overhaul. The shower runs poorly and without pressure, and the room feels extremely humid after a rainy day.
The Indian male staff is attentive and friendly, the girls who work sometimes at the reception are now not allowed anymore to work the same shift (Thank God!!) and just do their job without any enthusiasm or experience in how to deal with foreigners.
The Indian Restaurant on the Ground Floor has the worst decoration of any restaurant in Male. Smallest of tiles on the walls, unimaginative clothes on the tables - so disappointing as the Indian food served isn't that bad! Still, I return because of the spacious rooms and the great location for a very reasonable price and bear with the aged and a bit runned-down building.

Room Tip: No lift. So elderly people should ask for a room on the 1st floor. Younger travellers will be happy with the 3rd floor viewing the main road. There's so much to see!

Athamaa Palace is good for the travellers who are on a short visit to Male specially for business or meeting purpose, hotel is not comfort but provide basic amenities. in Conclusion it is good if you are not looking for any luxury.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms in front of reception, noise may disturb you

Nothing great to write about this hotel except that it is in the ceneter of the market in Male the small island capital of Maldives.
It has a good in house Indian eatery and bakery.

If you wish to pamper yourself you can choose the distant Island resorts.
