“Surprisingly good hotel for a 2 star”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

We arrived at Male airport without having made prior arrangements for a place to stay. We were referred to a tour operator who suggested we stay one night in Male at the Mookai Hotel before heading out to the Islands. This hotel was within walking distance to Male City Centre and 15 minutes away from the airport by speedboat.

Although the rooms were basic they were clean and efficiently equipped. The room had a flat screen colour TV with more than enough English Channels including the news channels. The beds were comfortable, the shower had hot water, the towels were frayed. There were no amenities offered apart from a small cake of soap.

The air-conditioner worked well. There were tea and coffee making facilities provided in our room. Just outside our room was a separate area to relax with sofa suites and a small kitchen.

We had a lovely view of the ferry and harbor from our window. The roof top pool was clean and well maintained.

The staff were wonderful - in fact all the Maldivians we met were friendly and welcoming.

Breakfast the next morning was adequate with cooked food offered as well as fruits and cereals.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a one night stay over that is close to the town and close to the airport and ferry terminal.

Room Tip: We asked for a non smoking room and got a very nice one overlooking the water.

I do not usually stay at this place when in Maldives but due my usual place being full, I had the unfortunate choice of staying at Mookai. The room they gave me was terrible.. the windows opened up to a wall of the other building making it difficult to make out if it was 8am or 8pm. The room was small, claustrophobic, AC bad and toilet dirty. Enough said, I requested for a change in room which they did provided me something the opposite. The room looked onto the sea front, bright, clean. Service is average; you have internet; cable; breakfast is the same like most places. The place is fine for a few days like most hotels in Male. Guess, hotels are tailored for stop-overs rather than long stays. I would recommend the hotel if you get the right room

Room Tip: Chose rooms from the 4th floor and above and any room ending in "02".. ie.. 502/602/702 et...

Although listed as a five star hotel, that is stretching the definition a bit but the Mookai does have a small rooftop pool and other amenities that put it in a three star business hotel class. There is no restaurant but there are many decent western, Chinese, Thai and Indian restaurants nearby so that is not a problem though of course you cannot put the meals on the bill. Some rooms have a tiny balcony but it is not even big enough for a chair though it is nice for early morning views and opening the door allows the sea breeze to refresh the room. A TV with international channels, small refrigerator, small but adequate shower with hot water (give it time, the water does get hot but it takes a while) and supplied bottle water, coffee and tea facilities. The room I had on the 5th floor was very clean, reception manned 24 hours a day, in room phones capable of receiving outside calls (but routed through reception) and the two lifts were conveniently located and adequately sized for baggage and people together. The one problem are was that there was only one electrical outlet in the room so with today's multiple computer/phone/tablet charging requirements, a multiple output adapter may need to be purchased locally. Pricing is typical for Malé and with its good location and decent rooms, it is a good choice for the business traveller.

Room Tip: Rooms facing opposite hotels have a pretty limited view. Those facing the airport island and sea hav...

One night in this hotel situated 100 meters far from the ferry station of Hulumale and Lulumale. It is not exactly the best as Hotel. In the room large enough, lack electrical outlets, the only available in bathroom that is small and obvious water stains in the ceiling and shower is unclean. The sheets are obvious signs of wear, but seemed clean. Friendly staff as almost all Maldivians. Do not return to this Hotel

An average business hotel it may be, but it has comfortable, clean rooms, excellent views and a small, but very refreshing swimming pool on a tropically luxuriant terrace. It is located right near the waterfront where most of the ferries leave from. Easily walkable from the airport ferry even with a suitcase. It is ideal for spending a night before you take your ferry to your island the next day.

Room Tip: For a lower rate they rent rooms for up to 8 hours if you have time to kill before your flight or fe...

The best hotel to stay when you are in Male CIty, the capital of Republic of Maldives. The rooftop swimming pool and sauna bath is excellent and this hotel is overlooking the airport island where you will get a complete view of the sea and different islands. The rooms are very good and the amenities are also very nice . I stayed there in last march.

Room Tip: 2 room apartment room with seperate living room space

We meant to go to Kuramathi Resort but due to a delay, we missed the last sea plane and got stranded in Male. Organised by KUONI, we were put in this hotel. Very disappointed considering we paid £300plus/day for the resort. The room was small and had cob webs hanging off the ceiling and curtains. The staff wasnt friendly at all.
