“Good location, good value”
Reviewed 26 November 2011

The location is great if you want to be near the action in downtown Manila. There are good restaurants nearby and the hotel is waking distance to many of the local attractions. The rooms are rather spare and could use a splash of color but they are comfortable and the breakfast is decent. Overall, great value for money.

They're rooms are efficient! People greet you with Good morning, Good afternoon, and Good evening. You are given a coupon for you're daily breakfast depending on how many nights you stay. Food was completely rare and delicious. This hotel is a good place to stay at when you need to apply for Visa (U.S. Embassy) or you need a medical checkup in St. Lukes and even different restaurants are nearby.. all you need to do is walk a few blocks and you're there! And they also have a nice Café beside the lobby in which there's an inside (T.V. and air-conditioned) and an outside (Nice for chit-chats and smoking). Perfect place for business and this is also a very good place for tourists. I highly recommend this place for people who are conscious in saving money.

I make it a point to stay in this hotel everytime I come home to the Philippines (3 times already and counting)
Here are a few reasons:
- it's clean- not just the rooms, but the place itself
-it's safe, 24/7 security…so no worries.
- staff is very hospitable- this applies to the interns also working in the hotel
-overall service is very good
- it fits my budget

If you are looking for a place to stay in Manila that has all the basic requirements of a room: cool, clean, comfortable and secured, Casa Bocobo is for you.

Pros
- Easy reservations by email; they offer discounted rates for staying at least 3 nights and the prices quoted are very reasonable and inclusive of taxes and breakfast. For example, 3 nights in Casa Bocobo is equivalent to 1 night's stay in a hotel in Makati.
- Central location in Ermita, with nearby restaurants & Robinson's Place, and even Intramuros is walking distance.
- Friendly reception and staff, we felt secure as there was always staff watching the floors. They also hail the cab for you and make sure the taxi driver uses the meter (very nicely avoided hassle!)
- Spacious room with comfy king-size bed
- Two out of three times we found the breakfast buffet had lots of choices, and we were happy with the food quality. It seems they offer a dish each of veg, various meat, pasta/noodles, soup, and there's always coffee and orange juice, toast and jam and a local fruit. A good time to sample the local cuisine.
- Free, fast and reliable wifi
- Smart card door access

Cons
- You need to get the key for the safe
- The door doesn't shut well, this is probably why the doors slam in the halls, it actually woke us up a couple of nights

Other cons related to the cost of the king-size room, these are the things that would have been nice to have:
- Hot water in the faucet
- Hand towels
- Shelf for toiletries in the shower
- Coffee/tea making facilities

Deal maker
We liked Casa Bocobo because overall it was a very good option for budget travelers wanting clean, comfortable and secure accommodations. We can happily recommend based on our experience and will come back, although the twin or petite rooms would probably be sufficient for us. Admittedly the king size bed was a nice comfort, and may be worth the additional cost for others.

I got a special rate for booking in blocks of 3 and 4 days at a time and the price was very good for being in Manila. The staff are eager and run to do everything for you. The included breakfast is very good if you like that kind of food but there is no western breakfast dishes it is a buffet of 6 different kinds of asian foods, well mostly, I did see pancakes once in the 9 days I was there.

It is not a new building but is much better than the surrounding area especially if you are looking to be at this price point. I had 2 rooms while staying there and both were ok but the street noise was very noticeable in the first one and it did share a window with the next room. on my second stay I got another room on the other side of the hotel which was not facing Bocobo St and it was much much better.

For the price you pay this is maybe the best hotel in that area, it is very clean and family friendly not so many beggers and prostitutes that are common to Manila. I am not saying it is in a bad area but Manila is just full of that and you better be able to stand seeing naked kids sleeping on the sidewalk with there family as I was suprised to see and they are taught to beg for money by the parents so if you walk to Robinson Mall from Casa Bocobo about a 5 minute walk straight up Jorge Bocobo st you better expect kids to come up and hold your hand and ask for money becuase that is the way life is there. But I had a very funny experience when a brother and sister beg me for coins and did chant Jolibee Jolibee Jolibee which i thought was very funny (Jolibee is like a filipino Mcdonalds) My wife is from the the Philipines and even she was shocked at Manila. A few things to know if you are going there. If you are a foreigner the cab drivers will try to rip you off, but even if they rip you off it is much cheaper than an cab in America but ask for a cab with a meter or as they say "metro". To get to Casa Bocobo tell the driver it is on Jorge Bocobo st next to United Nations Ave just east of Roxas Blvd or you may end up on the wrong side of Robinson Mall as some will drive you around for no reason even if they know it is on the north side of robinson as you would never know and it is not the same Bocobo st. Take a taxi if you go to mall of Asia maybe but Robinson Mall, Manila Ocean Park, are so close you can walk faster than traffic. If you are going to Mall of Asia try taking a Jeepney it is pure filipino and cost like 8 pesos less than 20 cents and you should do it because no where else can you ride in a Jeepney. If you are ON Roxas Blvd jump in a UV express van they are 10 pesos and will take you to the mall. Casa Bocobo is truly the best place for what I paid with not even a second thought about it especially because of the included breakfast but Manila will shock you if you leave the Major tourist places and see even a side road no matter where you are in it and that is not being a tourist but anyone who has not seen a place like Manila.

Room Tip: The only thing I can say is make sure it is not a room facing J Bocobo st as it is very loud
