“Come with an empty stomach”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

We had our Christmas lunch here last December 2013 and the food was delicious and very Old World like the heritage house which houses the restaurant. One must reserve in advance and for Christmas, set meals were priced at PHP1500 per person (even though you'd pick out a PHP 1000 set meal). What was initially a 6 course lunch turned into a possibly a 9 course meal with complimentary roast pig, turkey, stuffed chayote. The Bread and Butter pudding was the best I've ever tasted. This is definitely a hidden gem (and may require a good driver to find the place well within the Malacanang area). If you don't have your own car, make sure you arrange transport beforehand or you may ask the guards to find a cab (may take time). Get the phone numbers of the restaurant and in case that you get lost, call them and ask for assistance on how to get to there.

“Fantastic food and lovely ambiance of yesteryear!”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

We decided to tour the Malcanang Palace and combine this with lunch at La Cocina de Tita Moning. Booking is required as no walk ins are allowed. As its located within the Palace Complex we were not sure about availability of taxis so had a taxi wait and paid for his waiting time. The palace and restaurant are a very short walk away from each other.

Upon arrival at La Cocina de Tita Moning you are well greeted and taken into the lounge room for a complimentary drink and tastey cheese snacks. This is then followed by a tour of the ancestral house.Very interesting history of the home and information on the Legarda Family.

I started lunch with a pork dumpling soup which was delicious. Our mains consisted of Lengua Cooked in White Wine Paella Valenciana and Tita Moning’s Slowly Roasted Pork with its own Cracklings and Candied Sweet Camote. All the food we had was absolutely delicious.

Also a complimentary olive dish with the main and a sample of one of their products in a jar is provided.

Highly recommended place to have either lunch or dinner.

“Amazing unique dining experience”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

This incredibly unique restaurant is set in the heritage house of a Filipino doctor and his wife. Your dinner starts with cocktails in the garden, then a tour of the house, including the doctor's old clinic, remarkable photography collection and library. You dine in the house, with staff dressed in maid's attire. The food is based on the recipe's from the lady of the house, it is very tasty with a great wine list. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, by the end of the meal you feel like part of the family. Do not miss out on this experience.

“Step back in time and feel a wee bit special and a tad privileged”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

Not a restaurant you are easily going to stumble across - fortunate that Filipino friend took us there. You effectively drive into someone's driveway and park your car in their back garden. The house looks like it could do with a lick of paint, but actually, it feels authentic as a result too. This well-to-do household had entertained many parties from the upper middle classes of 40s, 50s, 60s Manila.
The format is a great idea - a sitdown welcome to have the menu explained, followed by a tour of the old house, including a quaint library and an interesting old doctor's surgery. The meal is then served - plenty in volume, good variety, though the main courses are not as special as the starters. And the bell to call on the 'servants'!
Definitely worth the effort of finding this place to have a meal with a twist. Salamat Tita!

“A charming experience from the past”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

A great way to spend a rainy afternoon. Exploring the rich heritage of Manila during the Spanish reign. A museum of love recreated by a granddaughter which allowed us a ringside experience of a Spanish aristocratic home of a 100 years ago. The paintings, the furniture, the porcelain, the glass figurines not to mention the camera collection the ham radios and the antiquated X Ray machine...
And to top it all the wonderful lunch served with exquisite style. A must do.
