“Friendly staff, but overall dirty. Located in bad area of town.”
Reviewed 3 February 2012

Stayed there two nights, one night in a standard room and the other in the "suite".

First of all, most locals say that this area is quite bad to go at night. Apparently there are a lot of snatchers in the area.

Secondly, the hotel maintenance is poor, the rooms are not clean and the entrance of the hotel stinks. In both rooms, the bathroom was not clean and in the "suite", there where papers, old flowers and hair under my bed. Additionally, the beds are really hard (box-spring), it takes a while to get used to these.

The pros is that you are in the true heart of manila. Also, there is free wifi all around the hotel so that's a plus. The hotel staff where nice, but most of them are in the Philippines anyways.

I would recommend against this hotel, there is definitely better value for money in manila.

Room Tip: All rooms have A/C.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night in January 2012. This was one night too much!

- The room was dirty, with other people's hairs all over the floor and in the bathroom.
- The bed was so hard that we may as well have been sleeping on the floor. It was incredibly uncomfortable.
- The room rate is not particularly cheap, considering the poor quality of the accommodation.
- The hotel itself was noisy, with people coming and going all night.

Overall, we had a worse night's sleep than we would have done in a dormitory, but for about six times the cost. If there is one redeeming feature about the place, it is that the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I can't comment on location, since we used the place for an airport stopover only.

As an aside, we ate in the attached restaurant ("Phat Panda") as it has received favourable reviews on TripAdvisor. I can only imagine that the people who reviewed it well were affiliated with it in some way, as it served the worst kind of cheap, greasy Chinese food imaginable - the sort of thing you'd find in a backstreet Leicester Square post-pub Chinese cafe.

Avoid.

Room Tip: If you do stay here, ask for a room as far from the front desk as possible.

I stayed at this hotel because there were good reviews on this hotel. I thought this was in a good area but was wrong. This is located in a dangerous section of Manila. In the hotel, the beds used were box-springs only, no mattresses. Very uncomfortable. Also the restaurant downstairs seemed dirty and was not open when we wanted food. My fiance and I felt very unsafe and uncomfortable and would recommend a different hotel.

Good points:
1. the staffs were very nice and accomodating
2. the rooms are clean (no foul smells) . . .except for a cobweb near the window.
3. very accessible to public transportation
4. very near ongpin street (manila's chinatown)
5. lots of nearby food establishments

Bad points:
1. the bed was so hard! (the hardest bed i laid on, considering that it has a mattress)
2. the pillows and blanket was thin
3. bathrom was a bit small. (there was not even a space to place your toiletries)
4. no elevators (very inconvenient for those who checked-in at the 4th & 5th floors.)
5. the stairs going to the 5th floor (suite room area) was very steep! Actually, it was like a steel ladder! (not recommended for elderlies and acrophobics)

The hotel is nice and cozy. Rates are very affordable for a hotel situated in a business district. Wi-Fi is available on all rooms which is convenient when on a business trip. No need to hunt for a place to eat since the hotel has a very good restaurant with delicious dishes right below. Commuting is convenient since there is a train station just right around the corner. I very much enjoy my stay here and would book the same hotel when I visit again.
