“A remarkable turn around”
Reviewed 16 December 2013

We popped into the Manila Sofitel about three weeks ago for a sunset drink. We were so impressed by our treatment that we stayed for the evening. The Spiral Restaurant is a miracle of logistics, and must be the finest Buffet Restaurant on the planet!. Last weekend, we decided to stay for a couple of nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Sadly, our arrival occasioned a litany of minor disasters!. The room was not ready for an hour; when we finally got there, it was very tired and had a non-functional air-con. The balcony door wouldn't open and the previous occupant's debris was scattered behind the desk... It went downhill from there.... Our day was marginally salvaged by a young trainee - Darel - who fetched and carried to a quiet area by the sea. Although he had to jog a couple of hundred metres on each excursion, he brought beer, wine, menus and food, all with a big smile; he deserves watching. We had a pretty sleepless night, what with a wedding and an accidental fire alarm at 4 a.m. The next morning we were totally fed up and ready to leave. I conveyed my disquiet to Adeline Gutierrez, who was standing in for the duty manager. She listened patiently and made no excuses. She then performed a minor miracle. We were offered a new, upgraded room, which was a delight. There was a complementary bottle of wine, bread, pate and a decorated anniversary cake! When we went down for dinner that evening we found that a table had been beautifully set in our quiet area from the previous night. It was decorated with fresh roses and three of the hotel's best waiting staff, Sidney, Ali and Ronnel were on hand to see that all was well. A couple of complementary glasses of Moet appeared like magic, and delicious dinner followed. What had been heading for a car crash twelve hours previously, was turned on its head, and we had the most memorable anniversary in our 24 years. This was guest relation management of the highest order. Our grateful thanks to Adeline, who initiated it all.

Well done, Sofitel!

Room Tip: Floors eight and above - do not go for the cheapest.

I stayed here four days, three to participate in a conference and one for leisure. The conference rooms are sound proof and big enough to host a good number of participants. The business center is functional and efficient for any business traveller.

The rooms are comfortable. However, sometimes it is possible to wake up in the early morning due to the noise of the airplanes flying to/from Manila International Airport. It seems the hotel is on the flying path of many planes.

On a better note in terms of location, the hotel is just 5 minutes away by car from the Mall of Asia, probably the largest mall in town. There is a shutlle bus between the hotel and the mall, but its service is limited to three or four times a day. If the shuttle bus is not an option, cabs are available and prices are very reasonable.

What needs to improve is the internet in the guest rooms. Wi-fi access was very weak and needed to use a cable to connect my laptop. To access internet using a tablet, you will need to go to the hotel's public areas where wi-fi is free. Also, the hotel pharmacy (a sort of mini convenience store) only opens until 8 pm, but once I found it closed at 730 pm.

The best thing in the hotel is the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was superb, one of the best ever, and had many types of food, so anyone with food restrictions will be able to find something tasty to eat. Another excellent feature is the hotel pool and the bar next to it. A great place to relax and spend some time off. Enjoying the sunset from here is a must thing to do!

Room Tip: Ask a room with a view of the sea! Very nice.

Sofitel is known as a weekend hotel especially for families because of their large pool.

We stayed in their Deluxe room. The room is okay... nothing really fancy... but I guess the great thing about Sofitel is the food. Both Spiral and their Lounge Area.

When we were planning of having dinner at Spiral, they could no longer accommodate us because of the high foot traffic. I guess, as an in-house guest, we should have given a priority.

Given the above, I would still go back in this property. I enjoyed my stay as well as the staff... They're very attentive and courteous...

Dear Valued Guest,

Bonjour Mabuhay!

We would like to thank you for your feedback shared via the Trip Advisor. It is with great pride that Spiral restaurant is mostly recognized being the finest in the industry having its 21 dining ateliers where secret recipes are masterfully crafted before your very eyes. The dining experience is taken into the level that is never seen before in the Asia Pacific Region. We highly recommend that prior reservations are arranged especially that there is a volume of guests who patronize the restaurant.

Thank you and we hope to be of service to you once again.

My boyfriend and I stay here whenever we are in Manila. The rooms are excellent, and the decadent buffet at Spiral is a real experience. We can spend the entire afternoon lounging by the pool, it is relaxation to the max.

I am staying in this hotel for a business trip, the hotel is located in a quiet corner of Manila, not very far from the airport. Hotel is quite nice and huge, I am on the 8th floor of the hotel, view of the bay and the evening view of the Manila city is spectacular from the balcony. Sleep quality is good. They have redone the bathroom. Breakfast was very good, with very good spread and I did get indian dishes for breakfast also which was very good. The huge mall of asia is close by. The hotel has got great garden facing the bay.

Room Tip: Request Bay facing rooms, which has excellent view from the room
