They had a promo last February and we booked 3 rooms online. It was definitely a great deal - accommodation with buffet breakfast for only Php4,000 nett.

The rooms are newly renovated and very clean.
Housekeeping are generous.
Breakfast buffet was wonderful.
Staff are friendly and attentive.
Free high speed internet.
A great place to relax and unwind.

Now this is really the best hotel I have been to! Such great service and a wonderful, bountiful breakfast buffet! The way they do room service is also quite a treat. I was so pleased, and they even put the table by the window for a good view while eating. Since I had two separate stays in this hotel in January, I got to try the two versions of the rooms: the original roomy one and the smaller one with more modern amenities. I am not quite sure which type of room I prefer. Both types are pleasing to the eye. I really want to come back again. Its nearness to old Manila also makes Manila hotel a very good choice for tourists. Thank you also for the newspapers in little brown bags and nice entertainment at the lobby!

Once upon a time there were three Grande Dames of Asia, The Peninsula in Hong Kong, The Raffles of Singapore and The Manila Hotel in Manila. Unfortunately as the two claimed global recognition and prestige, The Manila Hotel was left behind by her two neighbors just like the city it was named after, it was only after years that The Manila Hotel is trying to regain its former glory back, it still needs some work but I hope one day it would claim its proper place in the roster of Asian Luxury Hotels.

Date of Stay: January 25-27,2011
Room Type: Superior Deluxe Room

Upgrade:

Amount Paid Per Night: Hotel Voucher
Reservation Method: Direct to the Hotel
Loyalty Card: None

Location: When in Manila for business, Manila Hotel might not be the best place to stay in as it would be a 30 minute drive to the CBD. If you are on vacation and want to experience something different Manila Hotel would be right up there as one of the hotels I would recommend.

Check in: Check in a bit of a challenge…even if they had people on the counter they were busy doing something else. The hotel was a bit busy because a lot of people are staying at the hotel for the University of Santo Tomas’ 400th year celebration. After 10 minutes they were finally able to check us in without any incident.

Room: The room was very nice…the rooms were very modern at the same time Filipino. I like the bed, not just because it was very comfortable because of the memory foam but it aesthetically pleasing as well. The Manila Hotel is one of the few hotels who still has a balcony although I never tried opening mine.

Bathroom: Pretty standard but quite spacious. The bathroom had a separate shower stall and bathtub that has a waterproof LCD TV built beside it. The shower stalls were big and had good water pressure.

Breakfast: Breakfast was served at the new 9 Station Buffet Café Ilang Ilang, and has a huge selection of food to choose from although personally the quality and taste still needs a lot of work.

Check-out: Checking out was fast, but they had a problem since they were charging me for breakfast which should have been included in the room and took them a few minutes to sort out.

Manila Hotel is family favorite of ours and we go back each year to celebrate our wedding anniversary there. So I'm obliged to return each year, regardless of service, cost or quality

The major renovations have been completed. The hotel retains the charm of glorious lobby, along with new updated furnishings in rooms and conferences. The best upgrade by far has been increased customer service. But remember this is still a 3rd world dirt poor country.

So don't expect outstanding services or facilities that you may be used to. But its the best hotel that Manila could probably muster. Also beware of late charges, extra fees and lack of cc refunds from deposits. The banking and billing processes are very poor.
