Owner description: The altar's replica of St. Peter's dome impresses visitors to this historic church.

Many years ago, its name has been changed to honor the first Filipino saint, SAN LORENZO RUIZ. It seems to have retained everything else though. It is immediately evident that this is an old, old church . . . an ancient church which is actually not uncommon in the entire country, having been under Spanish (ergo, Catholic) rule for about FOUR CENTURIES! Located at the heart of Manila's Chinatown, a food trip in the area is recommended after a visit to this church.

The architecture is great and beautiful but it's not as imposing as the other old and great churches in the Philippines. At night, the lack of enough lighting makes Binondo Church a pitiful display in front of a plaza teaming with wonderful and colorful fountains lighted with different colors. The interior is however appealing. The paintings at the ceiling is I think what make this church an exceptional jaw-dropper.

In front of the church is a stressful flow of traffic making me unable to take a decent photo of the whole church. The church would be more solemn if the road in front it is pedestrianized (and be closed to vehicles which I don't think will happen sooner or later). The church has no enough space for a front lobby, hence the latter suggestion (there is a wide plaza in front of the church though but the busy road that separates the church and plaza makes a carefree walking and running limited). The tall buildings and other trendy structures around are somehow stealing the attention from the Binondo Church making it just a 'normal' building along that street. If you are not aware of it's history and importance, the foregoing sentence might apply to you. ☻

I however appreciate the beauty of the church and I think it is a must-see structure during a Binondo visit.

P.S. The church can hardly stand out at night unless a good lighting is provided. ▬ #TownExplorer <www.edmaration.com>

I've visited Binondo Church several times, and each time I get more and more disappointed. It's nice to have a church in the middle of a chaotic district, but sometimes the noise is just too loud that you cannot hear anything anymore. Still, the place remains solemn, and is a testament to the mix of Chinese culture and Roman Catholicism in the Philippines.

Binondo Church where it is enshrined to this day on a glass-covered niche near the side entrance of the church. Another shrine located in San Nicholas district was built on the site of the old well where the miraculous image of Christ was found.

A visit to Binondo is not complete without a stopover to Binondo Church. This is the home of our 1st Filipino Saint San Lorenzo Ruiz.
