For a few pesos, one gets a top-rate, well-executed version of Filipino fare. Via Mare never disappoints. Can go for a special birthday celebration with friends, or just have a casual drop-by for some humble palitaw -- either way, it will be a lovely experience. The waiters are surprisingly not snooty in such a snooty-looking set-up. I think that's the best asset of Via Mare, when every visit feels like dining at a kumare's resto. That is, its outlets always seem to welcome you to simply enjoy your favorite Filipino comfort food in style, without any pain of high-brow arrogance.

If you are looking for home- cooked meals or snacks that are hearty and healthy, via mare is the place. It's the place to find good old merienda fares that Filipinos grew up with in the province. I personally like the porridge with all the yummy toppings and the rice cakes too, which is great with ginger tea.

As a local, I feel that it's priced a bit too high, but a lot of their dishes are pretty difficult to make at home, and everything I've tried does taste good. The bibingka here is excellent. Try the one with kesong puti / laguna cheese.

As I was growing up, my siblings and I have appreciated Via Mare. It is a Filipino Restaurant, serving the tasteful Filipino Food that no other Filipino restaurant can offer.

Ambience. Unlike other Filipino restaurant, Cafe Via Mare is old filipiniana and casual dining. Their restaurant is designed with a quiet and elegant filipino paintings or art work.

Food. Probably, many restaurants have served the famous BIBINGKA with either Salted Duck Egg or Kesong Puti. For me, the way they cooked their Bibingka is the BEST! Especially when served hot. The cake just melts into your mouth while you chew on the crunchy shredded coconuts (as it's sidings). Other mouth watering specialties are their PUTO BUMBONG AND THEIR PALITAW. The almost forgotten food of the Filipino of today but made special by this restaurant.
There are other specials that MUST be tasted as well. Their Chicken Arroz Caldo, Dinuguan at Puto, Vigan Longganisa with Egg and Garlic Rice (matched with coffee). Desserts on the other hand are HALO-HALO or Mais Con Yelo.
Since we were kids, we have enjoyed dining at this restaurant, we are now in our 30's and we still try to find this restaurant whenever we know it's nearby. Whether it is a special occassion, a date or just a plain Sunday lunch with your family, I highly recommend this restaurant.
Filipino food at its best!

Via mare known for its oysters. But when i ate their oysters are small. With a high price they should serve a bigger variety of oysters.
