So much renovation has been done to the place through the decades, but this remains the best place to go to for my Max's fried chicken fix. What's the dif from other Max's joints? Is it a different frying oil being used here? Could it be that the original cooking vat is still in use in this branch? Or is it just all in my mind?? Whatever it is, it's not the Max's fried chicken of my childhood if it's not at Scout Tuazon.

Eating fried chicken at Max's is a Filipino tradition. The chicken is usually moist, but rather on the oily side. They also offer other Filipino dishes, but with varied results. Their soups taste like they were made from instant powdered mixes purchased in a supermarket, their chicken burger is dry and bland, but other Filipino dishes like camaron (shrimp) and kare-kare (oxtail in peanut sauce) are okay.

The place was renovated a few years ago, so it looks nothing like its classic appearance that would elicit childhood memories from Baby Boomer and Gen X Filipinos, but it's cool, clean and well-lighted. Service is usually good, but can get rather slow when there are special promos going on (like during their annual Chicken-All-You-Can event).

It's worth it to try what is known as the house that fried chicken built, but I wouldn't eat here on a regular basis.

Max at Scout Tuazon, Quezon City has been a hallmark in the food industry. Established in the 50's, the restaurant is the place for all the family celebrations. From birthdays to reunions, from anniversaries to baptisms, from weddings to post funeral dining. They can accomodate a huge number of guests, whether you are a handful or whether your party reaches 500 to 1,000, they will have the space for you. Through the years, the Max Fried Chicken is everyone's favorite. I remember my Dad and Mom who always dates at the restaurant. Even Tita Fe who has been in the United States for 20 years fondly reminisces when she had her wedding reception in the 1960's at this food institution. For Filipinos all over the world, Max has some wonderful memories.

This is a chain of hug restaurant offering Filipino dishes.Their most famous dish is their fried chicken. They cooked it in a very different way, the chicken is very tender, crispy and the skin becomes so thin it almost become part of the meat. Another thing to try would be the camote fries which is like french fries but using sweet potato. But the good Filipino dishes to try here is their Kare-kare sinigang, lumpiang ubod, sisig, to name a few. The food cost is average...meaning, you are only paying a bit more for fastfood prices but for a decent meal...almost homecooked. The service is usually fast and good and you will almost not do bad in the ordering of food.

I've always loved Max, and this place has never given me a cause for grief. The food is always excellent and served in a timely fashion, and the servers are plentiful, courteous, and effficient. We held my son's baptism here last February , and it was a success. No hassles, no surprises. I'll definitely be coming back again and again.
