“Great choice for a stay in Manila”
Reviewed 13 November 2009

My husband and I were very happy with the Crowne Plaza. The room was spacious and clean. The indoor connection to the Robinson Galleria was very convenient. You could find everything in one place without ever leaving the complex.

We were also very happy with the breakfast buffet. There were numerous choices if one wanted an eastern or western meal. The quality of the food was quite high.

I like this hotel much more than its sister branch the Intercontinental in Manila. The rooms are bigger, the service is less stiff and more personable, an it connects to a mall with lots of restaurants, shops and a cinema chain. It is quite far though, so if you have to do business in Makati it's not much of an option Still, if I can I'd prefer to stay here. One of the best choices in Manila for sure.

This hotel is much newer compared to its adjacent sister hotel, Holiday Inn which is just next door. Both the hotels shared the same facilities. In fact, if you want to use the gym you need to pass through the swimming pool (small) and then go through the Holiday Inn entrance. This is rather inconvenient. And the gym is rather exhausted and in a terrible situation. The machines are tired, there is no bathroom or locker and you dont even get a work out towel!!

That apart, the room is of a confortable size. The bathroom is huge and the amenities are sufficient. It fits the bill of somewhere a 4.5 star hotel, but if you take into account the quality of facilities it provides (swimming pool & gym) , then it may just be a 4 star hotel. The breakfast at the hotel is good with plenty of choices.

Location wise, it sits on top, or rather at the same builing of a shopping complex, which make is very convenient. There are also plenty of shopping complexes nearby and a 10 minute walk will bring you to the train station.

Stayed here for 5 nights, on the club floor. Lots of services included at this level, making it a very good value, especially if you need to use the Internet or business machines. If you are not in a Club Level room, you have to go halfway to the Holiday Inn next door to access a business center, and then you have to pay for everything. The concierge and the staff in the Club Lounge are very helpful. The snacks and breakfast are fresh, but pretty much the same selections each day. The only negative during this visit was the view from my room, looking out on an abandoned building. Otherwise, I highly recommend this hotel if you have business in this area of Manila.

Our pts highly recommended Makati Shangrila when we told them we
intended to spend our 5D4N stay in Manila with 2 kids in tow.
Reading Trip Advisor warned me that MS may not be such gd value. Folks also
warned us re the horrific road traffic (not as bad as Bangkok) . We decided to split the stay to 2 nites at Crowne Plaza and 2 nites at Ascott Makati - see RV on Ascott Makati

Crowne Plaza 19th flr with Club Lounge facilities was fantastic - with 3rd and 4th flr access to Robinson Galleria (one parent could shop whilst the other stayed in the rm to mind the younger kid napping). The lounge prov breakie, a light lunch and light dinner.
Glad we did not stay more than 2 nites as the food did not vary much but I was amazed at the fare - with shrimp cocktails and grilled chicken for a light dinner, certainly worth the extra we pd to have 0the Club Lounge access. Having internet access there without having to drag the labtop around was great but I had to refrain my 8 yr old from using it when there were more serious users needing access as there are only 2 units tucked away in a corner room. Security however was a bit slack - we were not checked all the time. Being adj to RG was great convenience for shopping, food and money exchange.

When we arrived at Manila Airport, we noted 3-4 money changers - BDO prov the best rate. Glad we changed enough pesos as we were shocked that we had to pay at the time of checkin at CP though we thought reserving on the Net meant that the hotel had charged the credit card. The rm was charged in pesos and had we pd by credit card, the
rate was lousy with A$1 = 28 pesos then (we were in Manila in the first wk of 7/09) but luckily, we had enough cash to pay at checkin. We had noticed an American businessman who changed more than US$1K who adv us that we would not be able to find a better rate at the money changers. He was half right as the BDO rate was definitely better than the money changer within Robinson Galleria then.
However, we found a money changer on the basement level (near and below the main entrance) which did give a better rate than the BDO (by almost 1 peso per A$1 from memory) - on average, the rate then was A$1 = 36+ to 37+ pesos.
PS Tom's World at RG was a hit with the kids - large merry-go-round carousel and lotsa games - plus movies (BYO 3D glasses - our 3 yr old did not enjoy IceAge 3D as the oversized glasses kept falling off her nose)

The room was a bit small, but clean. The food was ok, but no that much to choose from- we only stayed for one night so we did not mind. The staff were very accommodating. Good location -close to shopping malls and aprox. 25 min drive to Intramurus.

Am a little confused this hotel is not grouped with the other "Manila hotels", but minor point. Overall I find Crowne to be better than Somerset and Holiday Inn which I've stayed, but not sure how it compares to the Shang or Peninsula.

Check in was rather smooth and the room was pleasantly larger than I expected. It was also clean and fairly modern, except the tv was not flat screen yet, pity. And the shower door didnit seem tight enough to keep the water from seeping out after a shower. The breakfast was above average, with a mixture of local and international cuisine. The hotel has a few restaurants and bars, which were also above average, and the bar has good bands that change each night.

The front desk and conceirge were generally helpful and above average, and tried to get most of my requests executed with a smile. I understand it's next to a mall, but I didn't have the time to head in there, though I reckon the GreenHill or Mall of Asia may be better bets for tourists.
