Golden Boutique Hotel
Ranked #3 of 102 Ankara B&B and Inns
Reviewed 31 July 2013 via mobile

The Golden Boutique Hotel may not have the class of the Sheraton around the corner, but it makes for a fun trip to Ankara!

The other reviews mention the staff not speaking very good English, but don't let that put you off if you are happy to find your own way around Ankara. We were in town to go to an Embassy and eat delicious food, both of which were easy to do as both were within easy distance from the Golden Boutique.

Taxis are cheap from the hotel (12 lira to the city centre, 80 lira to the airport) and the staff are happy to explain to the driver where you want to go.

Good value for a hotel in this area, and yes, everything is gold at the Golden Boutique Hotel!

The place is nicely located near the Argentina street with lots of cafes and restaurants around. It's a boutique hotel, with nice rooms and some with street side views. The breakfast is served to the room if requested at no extra charge, and what I loved about the hotel. As the name of the hotel suggests, most things are actually golden. But while initially that may seem a little tacky, you quickly get past that to see the nice place, clean hotel and friendly staff.

The staff at the reception, both in the evening, and a guy called Dincer in the morning were especially helpful with directions, ordering in food, reservation of cars etc. Not all the staff will manage to speak English, so that could be a slight challenge for foreigners.

The hotel does not have a restaurant functioning in the evenings, but with the vast options of restaurants and cafes in the area, that's not really a big concern. I would definitely give them thumbs up!

After looking online at the photos of this hotel, I had to stay here...
The hotel staff was friendly and there is always at least one on staff present who speaks English. Valet parking is free, but I would suggest you don’t need to rent a car here as the taxis are plentiful and cheap and the location is great for walking to just about anywhere.

The Sheraton is certainly the nicest hotel in town but it’s expensive and usually very busy with VIPs. The Golden is a nice little place just up the street from the Sheraton in a quiet neighborhood. There are wedding held in the basement but even on the 3rd floor they did not disturb us at all.

The rooms are large with round beds everything is golden (of course) and there are nice small veranda’s off each room. The staff is great in that they will order delivery for you from any surrounding restaurant or you can order room service there or just walk out to one of the many restaurants, cafes, bakeries etc..

All in all it’s reasonably prices, great location and really… who doesn’t want to stay in a place as gaudy as this at least once. TIP: Your room key card has the address on it, so show the taxi drivers and they will get you there, otherwise many dont really know the Golden.

Looking at the pictures you would think to go into a super kitsch hotel. Indeed it is. BUT apart for that the hotel is very nice, clean, comfortable and silent. I was in Ankara for work so I needed to sleep well and have quite rooms. I had a very large room (more than needed) and a very large bathroom. My bad was even round (!) but super comfortable. Air conditioning works fine. The personnel is not super helpful though, they don't speak good english. The breackfast is complete, with typical turkish meals. The location is not great, the area of embassies and expensive restaurants. In the area it is probably one of the best deals, and it is a bit difficult to find the first time. To go to the center (Kizilay) you might need a taxy (cheap) or a bus (4 minutes walking). Nearby there is anyway a very busy area of pubs, night clubs and restaurants.

The name and photos persuaded us to have a try of this hotel for the kitsch value. Surprisingly it wasn't as kitsch as we thought it would be and the rooms were surprisingly tasteful. And we experienced two of them in the end!
We were staying at this hotel for one night to break the long drive back from Cappadocia to Istanbul. We were given an upgraded deluxe room for reasons I didn't quite understand at the time as the receptionist muttered and didn't speak very good English.
We were tired and still had a long day's drive ahead, so after finding food not too far away and having a drink we returned to the hotel at around 9pm to chill out.
As we walked up the road we could hear loud drums and entertainment and it became clear there was a very loud party being held at the rear of our hotel - hence the upgraded room to move us away from the rear. However as the room was on the side and it's not a very big hotel the thumping sound in our room was loud and not conducive to chiling out.
I went down to reception and asked how long this would go on for and was told 11 to 11.30pm, which I wasn't sure I believed and anyway wasn't happy about as we had thought we'd have peace and quiet in our room.
To give them their due, the manager called our room and offered to move us to a King Deluxe room which was at the front of the hotel on the top floor, which we did, but you could still hear the thumping and we never did get to just rest before trying to sleep as we then had to change rooms.
If we had known in advance about the loud party we would have chosen to stay somewhere else but we were never given that information.
