Eating Traditional Typical Good Safe Turkish Food in a Good Friendly Atmosphere in ANKARA: GOKSU
I highly recommend to our foreign guests/ visitors the Goksu Restaurant.
The restaurant has four floors and a roof (open in the summer evenings). You can have either lunch or dinner. They have brunch (long breakfast) on Sundays.
They have nearly all kind of typical dishes including kebabs, fish and homemade traditional dishes and Turkish delicatessen (mezes). They do not only typical grilled fish but different Turkish style (e.g. bugulama) too. I always have "levrek bugulama"(if it is in its season, please try).
The menu is so wide that there is plenty of food for different types of diets, for different age groups. I am sure that there are couple of dishes that suits your taste regardless where do you come from.
Please be careful with the starters (we called mezes- delicatessen) because they are so delicious. I recommend either have one or two mezes as a starter and then have main dish OR have (try) different mezes with Turkish Raki and have no main course. For the first time visiting Turkey and have no much time to go for dinners, I strongly recommend “trying different varieties of mezes and the Turkish raki” and may be if you have room left in your stomach you can share one portion of “levrek bugulama” as the main dish.
The wine selection is very reasonable and prices are very reasonable. You may have beer, Turkish raki or non-alcoholic drinks (cola- sprite etc) including traditional Turkish drinks (ayran and salgam).
It is a non-smoking restaurant. The air-con is very good. The sealing of the every floors are high enough so you feel yourself as in an open air.
We the local people go there with friends, with our families and with our business partners.
They offer fruit and Turkish deserts and yea/Turkish coffee spontaneously (as compliment of the restaurant- free of charge).
The price is very reasonable when comparing similar other restaurants in Turkey.
I would say “full dinner (mezes plus fish) with either one bottle of wine or 35cc raki” for two people not more than 75 USD. You can pay with your credit card. The waiters usually expect 10% tips but this is not compulsory
As a medical person I would say the restaurant is hygienic and the quality of the food is good & safe. So you do not have to worry. The ladies can give their fur coats to the cloakroom, it is safe restaurants.
If you come by car, the vale (parking) service outside the restaurant will look after your car and they expect 5 USD for that service (not compulsory).
Reservation recommended but if you go there without reservation, due to Turkish hospitality they will always arrange a table for the foreign visitors/ guests. You can go there even without any Turkish friend and the staff will look after you. They know what foreign guests usually like so they may make some recommendations (they never insist).
There is no typical Turkish entertainment (dancer, folk music etc) there. Some evenings, they perform just piano for two hours (classic music).
This is a restaurant that you can have good typical Turkish food and talk with your family/ friends. You will see that the local customers are mostly well educated Turkish people.
We usually eat lunch around 12:00- 14:30 and dinner around 19:30 till 23:00. The attire/ the way dress is usually smart casual. You may see some man with ties and some ladies with nice dresses (usually business dinners).
I am a medical doctor and I do not have any professional relation with this restaurant. I and my family and my friends go there quite often. Whenever I go with my foreign guests, they like.
Address: All the taxi drivers know that place. GOKSU RESTAURANT, Nenehatun Caddesi, No: 5, Cankaya, Ankara. This restaurant has another branch in Ankara. I can proudly recommend that place to our international guests/ visitors/ business partners.
Please give me your feedback when you try.
