“Should see.”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

It's not old. It's not the pinnacle of islamic architecture. But - it's very, very big. Wikipedia says 24000 can fit - I don't know what 24000 people look like, but when I went, walking barefoot on the carpet (I've since been told that's a no-no), there were only some children playing catch (and they were barefoot, too, so I don't feel bad), and a couple of guys with vaccuum cleaners attached to long extension cords there - and yet, the magnificence of this vast enclosed space, the austere ornamental ceiling, the feeling of my feet on the carpet, and the contemplation of what is meant by the word "faith" left a lasting impression...

“Colourful and peaceful”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

I think this is the real must-see place in ankara... i even like it more than the blue mosque, in istanbul.. it is big, peaceful, full of colours. A beautiful place to pray, no matter what God...

“Absolutely Gorgeous!”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

One of the most beautiful interiors I have ever seen. Details everywhere. The chandelier at the center is breathtaking.
The surrounding neighborhood is very nice, and a wonderful place to eat as there are many restaurants.

“Nothing to see”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

This is one of the largest mosques in Turkey, a poor replica of Mimar Sinan' s mosques in Edirne and Istanbul. Visiting the place is total waste of time.

“Huge But Uninspiring”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

This is perhaps the largest mosque in Turkey, but quite uninspiring in terms of the architecture and the interiors. Considering that it is a relatively a new mosque, one has to compare it with the ones in Doha, Casablanca, Muscat and Abu Dhabi. It does not come even close. Young men were lying sprawled on the floor inside as if it was their living room, playing with their phones. Some were climbing the Imam's chair to take their selfies.

Ankara can and should be dropped from Turkey's itinerary. There is absolutely nothing here in this capital city worth spending even a day.
