“Beautiful hotel with room for improvement”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

The hotel has both positive and negative aspects. The positive ones are: design, location, view over Bodrum Marina, food, Beach, pool, spa, overall look and atmosphere.
The negatives: certain services (especially cleaning), coffee and sometimes (too loud) music.
I will detail each and every one of them. The hotel looks pretty amazing, the view over the marina is superb and even if we had a room with garden view that was also great because the gardens are also beautiful.
The food also very good, many Turkish dishes (which we love) in addition to standard international ones. From breakfast to dinner everything was to our taste, including our 4-year old's.
The spa center is also nice, the masseuse was Indonesian so she really new her thing.
The beach is not too large but quite enough, never too crowded, we always found free sunbeds close to the water. There was also a "grassy" beach arranged with umbrellas and large cushions instead of sunbeds. Those were really comfy and could also be found near the pool. The pool water was the best ever, the water had 28-29 degrees so we used to take a refreshing dip into the sea and then go to the pool for a longer swim.
As for the neagtive aspects, cleaning was a bad surprise. The cleaning ladies would come in the afternoon when our kid was sleeping so one day they didn't come at all. The next day we called the reception and they said they would send someone right away. That someone came two hours later and only replaced our towels. The bathroom floor was really dirty with sand and all but they said their work ends at 5 so they didn't have time to do anything more. One day they took all three sets of towles and put back only two. The bathtub also looked like it needed a good scrub.During our 7 day stay they mopped the floor only once and they totally ignored the terrace where we happened to have spilled a glass of gin tonic. That stain remained there throughout our stay... I cleaned the table terrace myself after 3 days when they didn't even touch it and it was really dirty.
The problem with the coffee was that they would only serve soluble coffee from coffee machines. If you wanted a regular (Turkish) coffee you had to ask for it specifically. We usually asked for Turkish coffee at the pool bar but only some of the bar tenders knew how to prepare it so once we asked for Turkish coffee, they looked very confused and finally served us soluble coffee. We finally got used to the the soluble coffee but this is really unacceptable for a country which is famous for its coffee tradition.
We had a room with garden view, close to the pool and restaurant That was very convenient for us, considering the kid and the fact that we didn't need to climb any stairs to get wherever we needed. However, the animation/entertainment/live music would happen near the pool bar, right under our window. That means terribly loud music until or past 11pm on all nights.

Room Tip: Rooms 401-404 (with garden view) are right next to the pool, pool bar and restaurant, which is very...

Where do i begin?! My partner and I came to this hotel as my brother recommended it, as he went to this hotel around 6 years ago and said it was beautiful! We arrived at the hotel at around 3am turkey time. The receptionist checked us in and gave us 2 warm bottles of water and a sandwich wrapped in cling film. We gave our luggage to a man who put them on a buggy outside and we ended up getting on the buggy and moving away from the hotel and around the side, the buggy going stupidly fast down a dark ally way where they kept the bins, we had no clue where we were. Eventually we got to our room, where the front door worked as our balcony and walk way to other guests rooms as well, if you end up staying there make sure you ask for a room that is higher up as we didn't even have our own balcony. We went into our room to find two twin beds pushed together to make a double bed with two individual quilts, we asked for a double room with sea view and so far didn't receive either. To make it worse, we checked the room to discover our bedside cabinets glass was all smashed and falling apart- dangerous! The toilet flusher was falling off the wall and when opening the toilet lid we discovered the toilet brush still sitting in the toilet! showers weren't powerful enough but it seemed quite clean. We stayed there the night, before complaining the next morning. When we asked for a room that we had payed for they seemed to be quite helpful in getting us another room. They showed us one room which had no sea view but a better room and another which we then settled for with a nicer room and sea view.
The actual building and pool area is very nice! but only go there if you want beat music in your hear while sitting by the pool. not very relaxing, dj was pretty horrendous. Also, expect to be bothered by people trying to get you to do the activities- hairdressers, photographers, people trying to get you on party boats as well as trying to get you to play sports with them all day.
Getting a bed at the pool was pretty easy, lots of beds, some better than others. The beds around the sea seemed lovely but we never actually went down.
The information they give you about the hotel is limited, we knew what time breakfast, dinner and lunch was and not much else, it wasn't till the last day before we left that we discovered there was a snack bar, no one told us.
Food, not great! It is buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner and can be repetitive, ok for a week but I don't know if I could have eaten there for another week!
When going to the snack bar, we asked for two coca colas, we waited for half an hour before we realised they still hadn't arrived, we looked up to discover that the lady that we had ordered them from was just staring into space. My partner decided to go to the bar and get them himself and she stood right next to him and didn't say anything. The bar service was very poor.
Throughout the week there was always problems with our room. Our fridge didn't work so whenever we had water it would always be warm, we complained to reception, they sent up 2 different technicians whom which did the exact same thing, this involved opening and closing the fridge and saying 'it works now' the light wasn't even on and it was warm, the whole week! Also, make sure you get 2 keys otherwise you can't keep the air con on, you have to keep one key in the room to ensure the air con stays on!
If you pay for all inclusive, bare in mind that only water in the room is free, the rest of the mini bar you have to pay for, all inclusive drinks are quite limited to be honest, they tend to offer a lot of imported drinks which they charge for, my partner asked for orange juice and they tried to charge him for it.
The location of the hotel is ok. The best part was the boat, there is a boat that gets you from your hotel to Bodrum centre for 6 lira PP this was easy transfer but the hotel doesn't tell you about it, so you should ask about it. It is quite hard to find where the buses run from at this hotel so expect to spend money on taxis!
The entertainment at the hotel was ok, the bands were ok but after eating we would always have to watch them set up and test their microphones before starting, this would take to up to an hour. Then before they start there would always be kids entertainment called 'mini disco' this would involve one woman dancing with the kids in front of everyone everyday, unfortunately she only knew 6 songs so every night we would watch the kids dance to the same 6 songs, for a week, even the kids looked bored of it.
We found the biggest let down was probably the reception staff, we found them pretty rude and unhelpful. On our last day we wanted to find out what time our transfer was coming, they told us to check the information board, the information board was all in another language so we had no clue what any of it said. We went back to ask and the man told us to call reception again in the morning at 8am. We proceeded to ask how much money we had on the room to pay, he decided to guess and said 'about 50 euro' we didn't even give him our room number! So unhelpful! We called at 8am the next morning to find out about transfer and he was still behind reception, telling us to call back at 10am. After finding out our transfer time ourselves, we had to check out of our hotel room 12 hours before the pick up, so we asked for late check out.
They tried to charge us £80 for 6 hours of our room. We were not happy, we told them that our fridge was broken all week and we needed a room, the receptionist said they would give us a room if our fridge was still broken, we had just told him it was broken all week! Eventually, after speaking to their unhelpful manager we got a room until 6. Well, you should have seen this room. It was like walking into a cupboard! I swear it was staff quarters, it didn't even have a room number! We had a shower and quickly got out of there.
We had to laugh it off, it was just horrendous!
Overall, Would i return? Definitely not!
The staff is the biggest downfall of this hotel as the building and pool area is fine.
Do not waste your money!

We have stayed twice in Salmakis Hotel in winter season. First time we booked there because of the location. We were so impressed with the hotel service and facilities. The turkish bath, pool, and tennis courts are great. The hotel restaurant was affordable and the food was made fresh. The staff was so friendly too.The kids especially loved the hotel so much and they insisted to come back again and so we did in two weeks. It was the same satisfaction if not better.

We spent 11 great days at Salmakis starting from June 20th - we took all inclusive service, since we were traveling with our 10 month old baby.
Had a sea view room - perfect by days, and at night little noisy because of the disco ships at the sea - but after you close your balcony door, you sleep like a baby. Nights were hot - so we had our air condition on entire night, especially because we had to close the balcony door because of the noise. We had a big king bed and a baby cot for our little one - but did not use it, since the bed was so huge - so we all slept together.
Rooms are in old Otoman style, so at first site it seems that the rooms are a bit outdated and need a refreshments, but the entire hotel is in same style, so we believe that that is the décor that follows the style of the entire hotel.
We did not use nor attended any animation shows - just were not interested, so cannot comment that.
Hotel has a beautiful lobby, where we have spent time for the afternoon coffee, plaid some billiard, or table tennis.
We thought that we will have problems when taking our baby to the beach using strollers, because the entire hotel is in a cascades - so a lot of stairs, but there are lifts everywhere, so we had easy access to the hotel beach and the main restaurant. Staff is very friendly, willing to help and very hospitable. Food, hospitality, cleanness and baby friendly - everything deserves a high ranking. Sea was a bit cold for our baby at first, but from June 26th, we were able to take him for his first swimming in the sea in the afternoon. Until then, we have used the pools - which are clean and the water is warm, so our baby enjoyed. Hotel is perfectly located - just a ten minutes walk (with baby strollers) distance from Bodrum marina, where in a supermarkets you can find everything for your baby (diapers, juices, baby food), so no need to bring that from home. Taxi from Bodrum to the hotel is 10-20 Liras (3-7 Euros) (depending from which taxi station are you departing from), and the Dolmush vans are ok as well (we did not used them, but heard that they were ok) - they are 1 Eur per person.
Food was excellent, a lot of salads, fresh fruit, pastry, had no complaints and were really satisfied.
All together, we would be glad to return to this hotel again, as we are really satisfied with everything.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms :)

Really not worth the trouble of going here. I stayed here for a week and a half with a few of my family a few weeks ago.

First, we needed two rooms to house the whole of my family. We asked that these rooms be next to each other several months in advance, and repeatedly emailed them, but they failed to reply, and by the time we got there, sure enough the rooms were on different floors, and a good 2 minute walk from each other. It took the reception two days to deal with this request.

Second, the reception staff. I can understand if they don't speak flawless English, but they failed to deal with our basic requests. Like the room thing above...whilst they were dealing with that, every time we asked them anything, they said "yes, we're trying to find you two rooms next to each other". How that stopped them from telling us how to get a taxi, or when the restaurant opens, I have no idea.

The holiday was originally meant to be a diving based trip, but the diving organization with a stand at the hotel was atrocious...i didn't feel safe at all, which when you're 10m underwater, isn't great at all. Not their fault really, so I don't blame them too much for that.

Other than that, my only other minor complaints was that my room smelt of cigarette smoke after it had been cleaned (non smoking stickers appeared in the rooms soon after), you need to put your room key into a slot to activate electricity in the room (why do hotels do this???), and our air conditioning started leaking water if we set the temperature too low. At times the waiting staff were a bit unprofessional...but that never bothers me too much anyway.

Other than that...the pool was great. The cocktail bar was great. The food selection was pretty great...i'm usually not too fussed with food, so I loved it. You are a 10 min walk downhill to the town, and if that sounds too exhausting you can get a water taxi or bus (both are cheap). I usually spent most of the day lounging by the pool though.

If they sorted out the reception desk staff, i'd happily come back.

Lovely clean hotel, with excellent staff,we stayed for one week all inclusive with Jet 2 holidays.Excellent value for money. All the wines were very drinkable, and good selection of cocktails. The food and beverage manager was around and about all day, every day, he was watching his staff, and looking to see everyone had everything they needed.
We will definately go back next year. Large clean bedrooms, fresh good towels every day.
Well done Salmakis !!!

I have just returned from one of the best holidays I have ever had at it was all down to the Salmakis resort! The rooms, food and service was all first class, the entertainment on the night was brilliant and if I ever had a problem the reception staff were quick to deal with it! I would like to thank the bar staff and the waiters for there excellent service, the chefs for the delicious food with a different variety each meal made going all inclusive the best choice! and of course the very friendly animation team who me and my girlfriend made very good friends with and made our stay that extra bit special, thanks to Phillip and our other friend who played water polo and took us out on the night trips.

Great holiday, will defiantly be returning to the Salmakis, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
