We had a great stay here in October. Weather was a bit mixed - occasional heavy downpours which staff admit they had never seen before - but it was still warm and there was enough sun to go away with a tan. The hotel is a little dated but had great character and the staff were excellent - and friendly. I was impressed by the reception manager greeting us by our surname each time we met - how do they remember ? The location is a little out-of-town which meant a quiet night. The local area looked neglected but we got used to it and felt safe at all times. The local council needs to tidy up this area! Rooms are basic but clean and tidy. The cleaner occasionally left an artisitc towel arrangement on the bed decorated with petals - a nice touch. There is a good sized pool and enough loungers available when we were there. We used the spa in the hotel for a treat, which was well worth it. The advertised fitness room was absent though. Food - if you like salads, you'll be at home. I'm not a great salad eater but the offering here was so impressive I had a salad each night before my main course. However, there was always something fresh cooked on the barbecue but the buffet main courses were a bit boring and low quality. Desserts - forget it, they were awful. There were tasty pizzas in the afternoon and coffee and cakes/biscuits at about 5. We spent a lot of the time out-and-about and frequently used the excellent dolmus bus service - amazing and you can flag one down anywhere. Took a taxi one day - don't do it - a scary experience! Right next to the hotel are ancient ruins. You can literally walk from the pool to the ruins and explore, although they have been neglected a little. Visit the amphitheatre nearby also - worth a walk. Beaches - try Bitez for a relaxing lounge by the sea - great bars too. Or try Camel beach if you fancy a camel ride - a very quiet beach though, good if you want to get away from it all. Try the local bar/restaurant here - we were invited into the kitchen to choose our own food from the bubbling pots. It was delicious. Hated tackling the market and shops in Bodrum though - constant hassle which meant we never actually bought anything there. Nice place to visit and eat - not cheap though, we found prices about the same as UK. Hotel is probably suited to the more mature traveller but my teenage daughter was happy to sunbathe and swim in the pool. No nightlife or evening entertainment here at all. Otherwise, a fantastic trip, great value - would go back.
