“Delightful home away from home”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

We booked here on the strength of the good reviews we had seen, but still were not sure what to expect as we had never been to Bodrum before. As soon as we arrived at the apartments we knew that signs were positive - clean, a beautifully well maintained pool, and friendly and down to earth staff who quickly got us settled in. For the price you pay, the apartments are brilliantly spacious and comfortable, certainly giving more room to breath than a stuffy hotel room. We had a large living area, a cool bedroom that faced away from any noise, and a spotlessly clean bathroom to ourselves. The apartments were located about 15-20 minutes away from a lively marina full of bars and restaurants, and a similar distance from Bodrum's bus station where you can catch cheap "dolmus" minibuses to many locations. It's close enough to the action that you are an easy walk or taxi ride away from any entertainment you like, but a little removed from the often loud, busy and music-thumping atmosphere of Bodrum... in other words, a perfect little oasis where you can relax and unwind before your day's activities. If you choose to spend the day at the apartments, the pool is open between 08.00 and 20.00, and often has only a few people in it so you can enjoy swimming in the sun in peace. They also have a little bar next to the pool which plays music, serves a simple menu of snacks and drinks, and is often populated with polite and friendly fellow guests. It's very much a "home away from home" and while everyone enjoy themselves, the atmosphere is chilled and serene, so you can truly relax here. It's worth remembering that this is a self-service apartment, not a hotel - which means you will need to figure a few things out for yourself, and be somewhat self-sufficient, just as with any apartment complex. In terms of service - If you make an effort to have a chat and get to know the staff in a respectful way, they will be very friendly and often go out of their way to help you. We found them to be very genuine, down to earth and good hearted people, and the owner Julia gave us a map and marked down dozens of restaurants, coffee shops and local attractions, many of which were invaluable to us. She is a bit of a character and has a cheeky sense of humour, and she made us feel hugely welcome and valued as guests despite the fact this was only our first visit - it's no coincidence that people come back here year after year, and the return customers are super-friendly rather than "cliquey" as some have suggested. There is a hot plate, dishes and cutlery provided if you want to dine indoors, but there are some cheap eateries on Ataturk Road (about 2 minutes walk) where you can get a delicious lunch for as little as 10 TL, so we didn't use.Make sure you budget extra money for air conditioning - 100 TL for the week, but we didn't mind the cost as we had two remote-controlled AC units which kept the place deliciously cool even on sweltering days. A safety deposit box is also on offer, but as the apartments are secure and the staff are trustworthy, we didn't use one (and I'm usually a security freak). Overall, Merve Apartments was an absolutely brilliant stay, great value for money, quiet and chilled out, always clean and tidy, with a great friendly atmosphere, and a needed retreat from the often lively and combustive atmosphere of Bodrum. We will be back! :)

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies, and some don't - if you plan to dine indoors, it would be a good idea...

Once again my partner and i booked a holiday to Turkey, we normally go to the Antalya region, but decided to spread our wings a little and opted for Bodrum. We have stayed in several apartments in Turkey and we thought we knew what to expect, basically a place to lay your head and have a shower, how wrong were we. As soon as we got off the coach, we could tell this place was different, even though it was past 11pm, we were greeted with a huge smile and shown to our room. We couldn't believe how clean it was and i mean spotless!

After traveling for over 12 hours, we needed a drink, so headed down to the bar, Ismail was there to greet us, and we got chatting with him, an absolutely top bloke, very interested in what you have to say and wanting to improve his already very good English, which was a good trade as we wanted to learn a little Turkish, which was great fun.

Julia and Selcuk, the hotel owners were fantastic, both were lovely and a fountain of knowledge, nothing was too much trouble, we have never felt so welcome away from home.

The hotel is quiet and about 10 minutes walk from the main streets, which is perfect as Bodrum is a party town, if we had stayed in town, the bars and clubs would've kept us awake, so a perfect location.

To sum up, all the staff were great, and not that false 'great' you pay for, i mean genuine people who want you to have a great holiday and will bend over backwards to help you get it, i have never said I'd go back somewhere before, but this place is a keeper, try it, and you'll not be disappointed, I'm already looking for dates for our next visit. Thank you guys for everything.

We have stayed at various apartments in the Antalya region of Turkey so had a good idea of what to expect when booking this holiday. We couldnt have more surprised and delighted by what we actually found. It was immediately welcoming, arriving around 11pm we had drinks at the bar and did so again throughout the holiday. We have never felt comfortable to do this anywhere else we have stayed or found the drinks reasonably priced enough to do so.
The apartment was so clean, comfortable and homely and was freshened daily by lovely ladies. The whole place is maintained to a very high standard and so homely.
Then Julia and Selcuk make you feel so welcome and are so friendly, such lovely people. They also have 2 dogs and several cats, all of which they have rescued and who were such a delight and added an extra specialness to our stay. Ismail who works there was the nicest young man you'll meet and cant do enough for you, as with all the staff.
Leaving to come home was very emotional and for the first time we have found somewhere we want to return to time and time again.

The hotel is fairly narrow but the design is pretty reasonable, no noise, staff very friendly and helpful. Outside is a pool pretty good, I usually swim there. The meals are quite tasty and hygienic .

This year was our third visit to the Merve Apartments and we love it here. the apartments are spotless and have everything you need to self cater if you wish. Julia and Selcuk are wonderful at making you feel at home and have many years experience at caring for all your needs and making your holiday a memorable one. I think everything has been said previously so don't want to repeat too much but the fact that so many people return year after year is a testament as to how highly regarded this place and the hosts are held. If you want small and (very) friendly book here and you wont be disappointed. Oh and don't book a boat trip in town go with Selcuk and come back to an amazing BBQ. A lovely way to finish a lovely day!
