My wife and I stayed for four nights in a top floor apartment in May 2012. I fully concur with the comments of others and will not repeat what has been said already. We have been running short-term beach holiday accommodation in Western Australia for 12 years, so feel well-placed to comment on the services provided by others. The Aegean Gate really is special. I could not fault it. Top marks. This place proved once again the value of Tripadvisor.

Room Tip: The two top floor rooms have mesmerising views

that hasn't been said on here before really. My husband and I wanted somewhere different for his 50th birthday - his choice. We have travelled all over really but never fancied Turkey - either of us. But Mike chose Turkey and I got to choose the hotel - still didn't fancy Turkey but there you go - his choice I said to him. Booked cheapish flights from Bristol with Easyjet; flight was delayed so we were late arriving. Rory and Gary waited for us, though, and we were met at the Aegean gates by the 2 of them and some of their "hosts". What these 2 guys do for the animals can't be talked about enough - they pay from their own pockets to get the cats neutered and fed and loved and looked after; they have some dogs but only 2 are around the hotel - Grandad and Sampson - Sampson looks like a small horse but they really don't bother with you at all and just laze around in the shade all day - Grandad follows Gary around all day but that's about it. The cats are not at all intrusive, but some like a cuddle now and then - again they don't bother you at all. Gary and Rory have some other dogs - 2 of whom I would go and see every day (I am afraid of dogs - a cat person if anything) and my husband couldn't believe it. Obviously if you are not an animal lover then this is not the hotel for you - for me it made our holiday just seeing what these guys do and how loving the animals are.

Anyway enough of that, the hotel is great - we had a suite - bedroom, bathroom, living room and a great balcony with fantastic views over to Kos. In a peaceful area of Bodrum but within walking distance to the town centre - taxis are very cheap and buses even more so. The hotel seemed to be favoured by those who liked to do a little more in the heat than sit by the pool and read/drink/swim and so most days it seemed as if we had our own private villa. Mahmoud is your host during the day and he and my husband had chats most days while I just lazed around or looked at the tortoises which again Gary and Rory had just at the end of the garden.

Bodrum town itself was a real eye opener for us. We weren't sure what to expect but it was certainly not the array of shops/restaurants/bars, etc we found. And of course it was all quite reasonable as Turkey is not yet (if ever!) in the Euro. As with most places you can eat as cheaply or as expensive as you want to. On one or 2 evenings we went to Kafetico (I think that was what it was called) up in the hills and very much worth the taxi ride for the views and excellent views., Gary and Rory also recommended a great little wine bar that had recently opened in Bodrum town and we spent a few evenings there just drinking wine and getting a takeaway (they didn't then do food but probably will be by next season).

So an eye opener all around and we will definitely be returning hopefully in 2012 if mine hosts will have us back that is!

Room Tip: All are great; ground floor rooms are bigger, but 2nd and 3rd floors have fantastic views;there are...

My husband and I stayed at the Aegean Gate in July/August 2011. We loved it! Bodrum is a great place for families, as Aya Napa it is NOT, and this hotel really made it special for us, as it ticked every box - small, clean, pretty, quiet, within easy walking distance of the centre and staffed by friendly owners who liked to have a laugh! In fact, we'd like to be able to transport it to every other resort we visit on holiday!! We had the best room for the view across the bay (see the pictures on their website - the one that overlooks the pool looks like it was taken from our room) and, because there are only 6 bedrooms, there is little chance of your holiday being spoiled by lots of noise from other occupants...having said that, you are at the mercy of the wind being in the right direction, as when it's in the wrong direction, you get the morning wake-up call from a large hotel near the beach, a couple of hundred metres away! However, Gary and Rory more than made up for this and their staff, Mahmoud and Fatima were always cheery and helpful. A word of warning...if you don't like cats and dogs, stay away from this hotel, as the animals there are really Gary and Rory's family! However, we didn't mind one bit and will certainly be going back for more!!

Room Tip: Ground floor room do not have a view, they just go out onto the pool area.

This is an excellent small hotel for a visit to Turkey. The stunning views from the balconies and the hotel grounds are wonderful. Gary, Rory and Mahmoud do a great job as hosts and the service is excellent. The rooms are spacious, spotless and comfortable. Although ground floor rooms do not have a balcony they open out onto a patio and the pool, and are a bit bigger than the others. So don't worry if that is all that is available. Overall, we had a super holiday at the hotel and were made to feel very welcome. We would definitely return. All the positive reviews elsewhere on the site are well deserved and we concur with all that they say. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Upper floors have balconies, but the ground floor rooms are slightly bigger and are very well appoin...

My partner and I picked this hotel as it was No. 1 on TripAdvisor - and even then it exceeded all our expectations! The warm welcome from Gary and Rory makes you immediately feel at home. They provide you with a map of the area and point out places of interest, including recommendations for various restaurants and cafes – these recommendations are always ‘spot on’. We had a suite on the top floor with separate bedroom and living room – there was also a large balcony with stunning views out over the sea and the town of Bodrum. Besides the excellent service provided by Gary and Rory, what makes the Aegean Gate ‘magical’ is its setting on a hill overlooking the town with a very large rock outcrop forming a backdrop feature to the garden and swimming pool area. This is lit up at night and really provides a ‘wow’ factor!

This hotel is so comfortable and so charming we decided to just stay by the pool some days - even in October the weather was hot. Although the hotel only provides B&B, we had some great lunches there organised by Rory – he arranged for a local restaurant to deliver lunch and helped choose our food (probably some of the best value meals we had too!). This really added to the wonderful experience that this hotel provides. As others have reported, Gary and Rory take in and rehabilitate stray or injured cats and dogs, so if you like animals, you are in for a treat – if you don’t, no worries as the animals won’t bother you. But trust me – the cats and dogs really add to the experience of staying in this magical hotel.

We don’t usually get involved with other guests in hotels, but the way Gary plays host at the charming poolside bar in the evenings just facilitates an easy social mixing – or maybe it’s the effect that staying at this hotel has on people that they just easily interact with others and share the ‘feel-good’ factor! Staying there was wonderful and magical experience!

Just to stay at the Aegean Gate is a reason to return to Bodrum!

Hello Everyone,

We stayed only 3 nights in room 6 with stunning views of the harbor and the hills and we had a hard time leaving our room & terrace...the view, the rooms, the terrace...and of course the people who own and run this place are the key to its success.
It takes hands on managers/owners to know the details of what makes a traveler truly comfortable and I might add so comfortable that they have a hard time leaving the place ...now that is the real proof that this place is amazing -spotless in /out of the rooms,terraces,hallways,pool,chairs,steps...cant find dirt or faults...This place has a stunning location but the credit must be given to the owners for the tasteful design ,most practical and comfortable furnishings, the soft and lovely colors carefully chosen down to the curtains, light switches, doors, windows and hinges.
Ok, so the masters of the magic are: Gary,Rory and Mahmoud and a lovely lady who came daily to clean our room...Gary with all the details-best restaurants, arrangements to be picked up and driven home after an evening out,Rory with our meals ordered from their menu and delivered with most care by Mahmoud to our terrace by sunset with perfect drinks, and plates picked up by him once we were finished eating right from our terrace ...wow
Mahmoud also took care of us every morning by arranging our breakfast and delivering same..so what else can we say ..one word PERFECTION!

Thank you very much for their kind hospitality and would love to return next September to find PERFECTION.

it is difficult to add to the reviews as it has all been said before. Gary, Rory and Mahmoud treat you like family and their tips on great local restaurants and places to visit are spot on. The Aegean is more like a B&B with only 6 rooms and ample opportunity for you to meet and talk with the other guests if you wish to do so. As noted on their website if you are not animal lovers then this may not be the place for you but for us Sampson, Grandad and the many cats made it feel more like you were staying at a friend's place. We had a ground floor room for 2 nights which we thought was great as it had a lovely outdoor area next to the pool but I have to say that a move for our last 2 nights to the top floor gave us the most amazing views over the water. Bodrum was a highlight of our recednt oversease trip and our 4 nights with 'the boys' was a real highlight.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 are poolside and are good if you do not like stairs. Rooms on the mid and top levels h...
