Our first trip to Turkey but definitely not our last! My wife and I recently spent 2 weeks at the Aegean Gate Hotel in Bordrum where we had a fantastic time. We had a suite on the first floor with a balcony and a view across the Aegean Sea to Kos. It was beautiful. Gary and Rory are great hosts. From the moment we arrived quite late in the evening until we said our farewells 14 days later we felt at home. On the 1st morning they gave us a map of Bodrum marked with restaurants and places to go which they recommended as good value for money as well as lovely food. They were spot on as we ate in the all more than once. They also recommended a restaurant in the hills (Kafedaki) where the sunset was second to none, the food excellent and a taxi there and back. It was a lovely evening. We went on a boat trip which they also booked for us. It was on a Gulet and included transport to the boat, trips to various little bays where you could swim or snorkel, lunch and transport all for 30 turkish lira. It was so good we went twice!
As we were there for 2 weeks we wanted to explore the whole area which with Gary and Rory's instructions to use the public bus services (very cheap and efficient) they sent us to some lovely places ie Yalikavak, Gumusluk, Bitez and Torba.
Most of the guests at this small hotel tend to stay 3 - 4 days only as they are touring. As a result we met Americans, Canadians, Australians, Netherlanders, Brazilian, Japanese, French and a few Brits. With Gary and Rory as hosts the chat was always varied and sometimes interesting in the evening at the pool bar. Breakfat is served in the shade looking out to the Aegean Sea and was always freshly served by Mahmood who also made us feel very welcome. Finally the Aegean Gate would not be the same without Grandad and Sampson (the dogs) and Lulu, Skinny and Misty the cats (to name just a few) they all helped to make us feel welcome.
Finally we would like to thank Tripadviser. This is the first time we have used it and without the recommendation we would never have found such a hidden gem of a hotel which we hope to visit again in the future.
