“First Holiday in Turkey”
Reviewed 5 August 2012

Our first trip to Turkey but definitely not our last! My wife and I recently spent 2 weeks at the Aegean Gate Hotel in Bordrum where we had a fantastic time. We had a suite on the first floor with a balcony and a view across the Aegean Sea to Kos. It was beautiful. Gary and Rory are great hosts. From the moment we arrived quite late in the evening until we said our farewells 14 days later we felt at home. On the 1st morning they gave us a map of Bodrum marked with restaurants and places to go which they recommended as good value for money as well as lovely food. They were spot on as we ate in the all more than once. They also recommended a restaurant in the hills (Kafedaki) where the sunset was second to none, the food excellent and a taxi there and back. It was a lovely evening. We went on a boat trip which they also booked for us. It was on a Gulet and included transport to the boat, trips to various little bays where you could swim or snorkel, lunch and transport all for 30 turkish lira. It was so good we went twice!

As we were there for 2 weeks we wanted to explore the whole area which with Gary and Rory's instructions to use the public bus services (very cheap and efficient) they sent us to some lovely places ie Yalikavak, Gumusluk, Bitez and Torba.

Most of the guests at this small hotel tend to stay 3 - 4 days only as they are touring. As a result we met Americans, Canadians, Australians, Netherlanders, Brazilian, Japanese, French and a few Brits. With Gary and Rory as hosts the chat was always varied and sometimes interesting in the evening at the pool bar. Breakfat is served in the shade looking out to the Aegean Sea and was always freshly served by Mahmood who also made us feel very welcome. Finally the Aegean Gate would not be the same without Grandad and Sampson (the dogs) and Lulu, Skinny and Misty the cats (to name just a few) they all helped to make us feel welcome.
Finally we would like to thank Tripadviser. This is the first time we have used it and without the recommendation we would never have found such a hidden gem of a hotel which we hope to visit again in the future.

I love my food and this place made our holiday. Not only was the service amazing but the food was to die for. I wasn't sure what to expect as I like my meat and two veg but I was converted to different styles. The hotel itself was stupendous. Well worth the money. We would definitely go back.

We stayed here because of the recommendations we got from this website. We had traveled in turkey 2 1/2 weeks before getting to Bodrum and looked forward to just relaxing and taking it easy. Rory, Gary, and Mehmet were all so welcoming and helpful. Thanks for such a fantastic time.

Room Tip: We had the top floor which had fantastic views and more privacy.

As other reviewers have quite rightly expressed, the hotel is first rate, the hosts are accommodating, the view and pool are outstanding. An inexpensive (8-10TL) taxi ride will get you to the busy and noisy part of town and back to this wonderful oasis. It's more like a Bed & Breakfast than a hotel.

I can only add that street animals are not well cared for in Turkey and Gary and Rory provide a wonderful service for the critters God places in their care. You might want to leave a few extra Lira to help with food and medical costs as you check out. Thanks.

Room Tip: There are only six rooms and they are all very nice, but we prefer the upper floor.

I stayed with my friend for 3 nights in May and the service was fantastic. Gary and Rory are welcoming hosts and made our stay special. The animals added to the unique experience - Grandad and Sampson (the dogs) are happy to have a cuddle, and Misty cat adopted us for the duration of our stay. Breakfast overlooking the bay is treat. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody who is looking to stay in Bodrum.

Room Tip: Rooms on the middle floor have a great view- however the ground floor rooms are larger.

My boyfriend booked this lovely hotel as a surprise for the last few days of our holiday in Turkey.
I wish our entire holiday was at Aegean Gate, it was the most amazing place to stay.
The Hotel rooms were gorgeous, the pool and the view from some of the sun loungers were amazing.

Breakfast was served in the beautiful garden area, the bar in the evening is lovely as you can (if you want to) just sit and chat there with the other guests and owners and it feels like another home.

As soon as you arrive you feel like one of the family, all the animals are lovely too, its so nice to see a difference being made to the stray animal problem in Turkey.

The owners are fantastic, so very helpful and lovely to chat too. I can't stress highly enough that you must go to this hotel. I miss it!

I had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back, i would recommend this place over and over again!!! I seriously didn't want to leave!!!

Thank you all for such a wonderful stay :-)

Room Tip: The higher you are the better view
