Quiet, spotlessly clean, comfortable, friendly, tastefully decorated- a real haven in Bodrum.

Gary, Rory, Mahmut great hosts. Take advice for the restaurants as the French and Spanish ones were outstanding.

We would not try anywhere else if we returned as we can't imagine that anywhere could top it.

Stayed: May 2014, travelled with friends

Thought the title would catch your eye. Yes this hotel in spite of what everyone says is not, I repeat not, a 5 star hotel and those who go there thinking that the previous reviews are nonsense are correct. This hotel deserves a special rating by those at Tripadvisor and that is 6 stars and no less. I have been to many hotels around the world that advertise themselves as luxury hotels and in general they fail miserably to meet the heady highs that a 5 star hotel should endeavour to achieve. This hotel has it all, easily surpassing and more the criteria needed for 5 star status. An amazing view from each seaview balcony, a comfortable suite and naturally superb hosts. Gary, Rory and Mahmut have achieved what I thought was almost impossible, the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world. It was, with great sadness, that we left the hotel and in our rush for the dodgy 21.30 Easyjet flight to Gatwick failing in our haste to adequately thank the boys for a week that is now an endearing memory. I have written many reviews and do not often compliment myself on a wise choice of hotel, but in this case my choice could not have been bettered. Boys, in the words of my Cockney brothers, you guys are diamond geezers and I wish you well for the coming season.
Might see you in September.

Room Tip: Try rooms 5 and 6 for an added dimension to your holiday, the view is as good as it gets.

From the moment you walk through the Gate of the Aegean Gate Hotel you feel yourself relax. Within a few minutes you are sat by the pool with a cold beer with Gary giving tips on a map to guide you round the area. As the other reviews say Gary Rory and Mahmut are delightful hosts full of helpful tips, tales of the rescue cats etc but never intrusive just always there if you need anything.
Everywhere immaculately clean, stunning gardens, beautiful views and peaceful .For those who are animal lovers watching three kittens play in the rocks overseen by Mum was a delight. If you are not dont worry the cats generally avoid guests and can just be seen sunbathing on a roof nearby!
Temptation is to remain in this haven and not venture out into local area . Personally I wish I could move this "little piece of heaven " to my next holiday venue!
Few tips beachtowels are provided so if you are short of space in your case leave yours out also proper! hairdryer in room my wife had brought hers with her, again can leave it at home.
If thinking of booking the hotel the website isnt on Tripadvisor but just google Aegean Gate Hotel and you will find their website with all usual info phone email contact prices etc. We had an email back in no time to our enquiry and Gary arranged transfers etc. Worth making the effort as you too could be relaxing in this haven as my wife and I did.

Room Tip: Room 3 & 4 are on 1st floor few stairs lovely view ,further set of stairs to second floor room 5 &6 have even better views but more stairs.

As others have said, this is a fabulous small hotel, run very professionally. Rooms are large, with a separate sitting room and either a balcony with views or a terrace overlooking the pool. Everything is spotless and the hosts, Gary and Rory, and their staff, particularly Mahmut, are extremely hospitable with good tips for restaurants etc. It is a little way out of the main tourist part of Bodrum, but a 30 minute or so nice walk down along the harbour will get you to the centre. You may want to get a taxi back up the hill – it cost less than 20 Turkish Lire. Breakfasts are excellent – either outside on the terrace or delivered to your room, depending on the weather. There is a choice of Turkish, Continental or scrambled eggs. All come with fresh fruit, juice, bread and jams and strong coffee.

If you are coming by taxi from the airport or with a private transfer from elsewhere, take note of the advice on their website – print off the directions to the hotel for the driver – this is a small hotel, and the locals don't know it. Our driver (from Fethiye) started taking us in completely the wrong direction – turns out he thought it was the Aegean Garden Hotel which is not even in Bodrum town. Once you are there, the owners will give you a card with directions in Turkish for the local taxi drivers.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have the best views, but you will need to climb the stairs, there is no lift

Aegean Gate certainly deserves its high marks. For those not coming to Bodrum to be right in downtown's hustle and noise, this is a great spot. We had room 5, a suite with an excellent view across the pool to the sea. Mahmut is wonderful as the hands-on host and owners Gary and Rory provided opinions on what to see, what to skip as well as colorful evening conversation over a beer. Great breakfast in an idyllic setting as others have mentioned.

Room Tip: Room five or the one across (six, I think). Both are on top floor, so stairs are required.
