Me and my family and a couple of friends went to stay at the Makumba in July 2009. It was alright, nothing really fancy or anything, i probably could've booked a better hotel. It was quite nice looking, with pretty plants and trees. But the big disappointment of our holiday straight away were the rooms. We booked a family studio including 3 beds and a cot. The room was very squashed and small. It was not pleasant at all! The space between the beds and the wardrobe was unbelievable. It was so small only one person at a time could walk through the space. Another thing about the studio was that the bathroom door glass was a bit see-through so you'd feel very embarassed to have to go with the precaution of someone looking at you. Other than the rooms, the service wasn't very nice either. A male receptionist was very rude to us when he took us to his rooms. The pool was alright but deck chairs were all taken even by 9am! The pool is very cold, and so is the little paddling pool for kids. There are also lots of cats out and about, sleeping on your clothes laid out in the shabby balconies. The location of the hotel is ok aswell, near to nice cheap restaurants. But we took a city bus to Bodrum and Gumbet alot to eat, as they have McDonalds and Burger King. However there are lots of traditional resarants about, i would recommend the Dolphin restaurnt in Bodrum. There are really nice excursions to do, as i would recommend going to the Aquapark, it is well worth a visit! Very fun and colourfull! The beach is near the hotel when you eventually find the small short cut to get there. However don't get your hopes up there as the beach is not what you'd expect. No sand just rocks, and the sea looks really dirty, not many people were swimming in it. The resaurants that surround the beach are really nice though, the people are very friendly and sometimes if you're lucky, give you great offers like free drinks to persuade you to come in. Be sure to look out for 'Sam the man'- as he prefers- he is very friendly and his restaurant is very nice. So overall the hotel wasn't all that i'd expect it to be, but we had fun because of te excersions but dreaded coming back to our beds! Don't book a studio that's all i'd say!

Went to this hotel in Aug iwith my sister and dad and stepmum, we had a great time!!
Bitez itself is a quiet resort but fantastic base if u dont want to be in the thick of it in gumbet or bodrum! its very small and not a great deal to go but laze around by the pool or on the lovely beach which has free sunbeds all the way along, or if u fancy something to do bodrum and gumbet are both just over a £1 on the dolmus takes no more than 15-20 min.

Hotel
Very pretty with loads of flowers everywere there are two pools but i only went in the main pool and never went in the other pool as no one else did lol,
rooms are very basic but adequate and i was happy to spend a week in them, there staff were friendly (sometimes over friendly but they did leave you alone when they saw you wernt intrested to mess around)
i had a lovely week stay here and was glad i went self catering which ment i could try the restarants around bitez! (bodrum and gumbet cost alot more money to eat out!)
Thats all i can really say about it if u have any other questions just message me

My partner and I stayed at the Makumber Summer garden Hotel in Bitez towards the end of September and had an absolutely fantastic time.
The hotel is situated towards the end of Bitez and is on a back street directly behind the seafront, with the beach and restaurants being less than 2 minutes away.
On site there are two pools, the main one was quite busy, even in September, but was a good size and with quite a number of sunbeds, which we never struggled to find, although I imagine you would in the height of summer. There is a slide into the childrens pool.
The other is a much smaller and much quieter pool at the back of the apartments which is 1.6m deep throughout so less suitable for kids. There is a tiny (and I mean tiny, about 1m x 1m) childrens pool here too.
The gardens in the hotel are beautiful, and look really well kept, which really adds to the environment.
On site there is a large reception area with comfortable sofas, a shop next door which is run by the hotel also, a restaurant (which was the only really bad aspect of the hotel - and which was obviously struggling as there were offers of up to 40% off every night), pool bar, and pool table.
We stayed in a one bedroom self catered apartment, which was large for 2 people and would be fine for a couple with small children, but with big children i think you would struggle!
There was a very small kitchenette consisting of fridge, kettle, sandwich toaster and portable hob, which was adequate for having breakfast in but you couldnt truely self cater.
The apartment was basic, but adequate, and was in good condition. The beds were fairly comfortable although the sheets didnt actaully fit the bed. The balocony was large, although it was disappointing that you could see into other apartments quite clearly.
Bitez itself is gorgeous, and is quiet compared to many Turkish resports, there is a lovely sandy beach with free sunbeds (providing you buy drinks from the restaurants that own them), pleanty of fantastic restaurants, and a number of small shops selling the usual knock offs.
Bodrum is 25 mins away by dolmus (mini-bus) which costs about 40p per person and is well worth a visit.
One thing I will warn against is the trips or should I say cons- we booked a trip to the market (which is a must to visit) but we were not told that we would have to spend 2.5 hours at Bodrum Gold centre first, and without choice. I would recommend getting a taxi (for not a huge amount more than the trip) or getting the dolmus to bodrum and out to Turgutreis again, which would take about an hour.
We also went on the jeep safari, which did make some interesting stops, although you got the feeling that they were being paid to stop at shops and cafes along the way as there were quite a few of them, and then ending up on a rather grotty beach.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would really recommend the hotel to others, and especially reccomend a stay in Bitez.

We stayed for 2 weeks on a half board basis, having booked last minute. The room was a good size, and of a good standard - a good bit better than some 3* hotels we've stayed in. The towels and bedding were changed regularly, and the floor swept - though the bathroom didn't appear to be cleaned much, and the room wasn't dusted. The grounds are beautiful, and the pools are clean. The hotel is in a great location too. The staff were generally nice - the poor receptionist seemed to work 20 hours a day! Breakfast was fine, but we only managed to stomach the dinner twice - it really was rubbish. There were 2 hot options each night, and the same range of salad-y stuff - all flavourless and unappealing. Fortunately we had budgeted to eat out anyway, but if we hadn't we'd have been really stuck. Overall, a great hotel, but don't go any more than B&B!

Just returned from a week at the Makumba Summer Gardens. The apartments are in a fantastic location, just a couple of minutes from the beach and the restaurants. Having read previous reviews, we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed. I had booked a one bedroomed apartment and having seen the size of the studio apartments, am very glad that we did. They were basic but clean with towels changed every day. There was a kettle, a fridge and and a toastie maker but I would defy anyone to cook anything!! There were two pools and there were a lot of children at the main pool (clearly no-one paying any attention to not taking kids out of school...) but the second pool was much quieter. The supermarket next door was great with fresh bread every day. The gardens were well tended and although I wouldn't have liked to be there when it was busy, it was fine for what we wanted. The staff were friendly and hard working. Basically, it was fine for a fairly low budget holiday where you don't spend that much time in your room. We didn't eat at the restaurant (having read previous reviews) but found some great places to eat, with Amphora being at the top of the list.

Wow... after reading some of the reviews I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. My girlfriend and me were after a last minute cheap holiday to Turkey, being 22 and both reasonably well travelled we didn't want somewhere too rowdy, nor did we want somewhere that was too quiet. This place was an excellent balance. Very clean, yet basic it posed excellent value for money. The staff were incredibly friendly and the beach less than a five minute walk. We didn't spend a great deal of time in the hotel, however, there was a decent, clean pool and bar and occasional themed nights. I've stayed in really nice places both with work and with parents but with this hotel you get what you pay for. If you are expecting pure luxury then spend £500pp on a hotel, if you are after a clean, decent and well located places then you are on to a winner. The rooms get a little hot at night but it's by no means unbareable. There is a supermarket next door that has everything you need and very well priced, along the beach there are countless number of restaurants all, again, very reasonably priced with the most friendly staff that don't hassle you at all providing you know how to deal with them. I would definitely recommend a day’s boat trip, a trip to a Turkish bath and to the water park, Aqualand. We only paid £25 each for all three but some people paid that each so the key is bartering. Visiting Bodrum is well worth the trip, it's about a twenty minute Dolmus (bus) ride and it costs about £1 each, the drivers are very helpful and friendly and they run frequently from outside the hotel. We came back in a taxi a few times and again, this will cost you about £10-15. Bodrum has plenty to see and do, fantastic fresh sea food restaurants and a nice castle to walk around with stunning views. We really didn't know what to expect so I've tried to be as detailed as possible writing this so you can decide whether or not it is the right place for you. It's not the most luxurious hotel in the world but it is very clean, with a good pool, friendly staff and the rooms are made every day. I would say it's very safe and ideal for families and couples alike that just want to unwind and have a peaceful and relaxing well priced break.
Lastly, I would also mention you notice a huge number of stray cats and dogs but there is no need to worry as I myself aren't a massive fan of animals but they are the friendlyies creatures you will meet. They wander up and down the beach day and night and are happy to just lie down in everyones way sleeping in the sun or hoping for the left-overs of your dinner. They will just sit beside you all day if you let them and not be any hassle in the slightest... you can't resist feeding them and they are quite happy to be fed!

As everywhere else, you pay, and expect to get resonable value for the amount. We got our trip very cheap, and stayed in two rooms appartement 3 people. It was on first floor, nice but little balcony with a table and 3 chairs, and we had a fine wiev over the 2. pool. The room was basic, but all stuff needed to cool water, sodawater or what you liked, and you could cook if you wanted. Our beds were very good, not to soft, and not to hard, and I have got a back, that hurts a lot, if I lay to soft or hard.
I also have travelled a lot. And know, that the hairdryer is the 3. star.
So 2 stars left for 2 pools, poolbar, good restaurant a la carte, and location nearby the beach.
The space around, the garden, was filled with hibscus in florish, citrus-trees, figtrees and banana-trees. The staff was kind and polite.
If it is so much trouble, that you can't have money on you by the pool, then you should choose all inclusive hotels.
We payed 3 x 200 £ for this trip for all 3 with fligth, room and breakfast, transportation to/from airport, food onboard, so I think we got value for money.
Sorry you did not
