“Bad food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2012

Hi just came back from a week at this hotel ,well what can I say except don't bother .no day time entertainment only one person called Speedy by the pool playing music and then darts twice by the pool, rooms tidy but not cleaned properly whilst we were there ie shower screen had stains from soap all over it ,bed sheets didn't fit bed properly and food was bad ,boring and lack of variety no flavour was ok if you liked meatballs in different shapes and dry chicken cos it was over cooked ,even served chips for breakfast cos as manager said they were closing for end of season and had to balance the books ,we paid the same price to stay in this hotel in October as in June yet we had no choices in food it was so bad people were going out of the all inclusive hotel to buy food in the village ,even speedy the so called entertainer and some other people bought in McDonald's to eat by the pool ,

Room Tip: Do not go to this hotel food is bad ,no entertainment only good thing was Turkish bath and massage...

Just got back 25/10 - 1/11/12 The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that it was clean. I went with my daugther and her 3 children and we had 2 rooms just down the corridor from reception and everyone who came in to the hotel we heard. It was about 5 a.m. when it was quiet! The food was basic and repetative, there was absolutely nothing for the children and yet everywhere else my daughter has been all inclusive there has been entertainment for the children. This hotel is too small to be a/inclusive. There was nowhere to sit in the evening! We had one night of entertainment which consisted of Speedy's friends doing break dancing and bingo which we had to pay for and that was it for the whole week! Some of us felt that the staff were just waiting for us to go as the hotel was closing for the season that week. I don't reccomend it if you have good taste! The tour rep told us lies! He said that the Pamukkale tour was 2 and a half hours and it turned out to be 10 and a half hours on the coach. The guide on the coach wasn't surprised so I presume that everyone is lied to. Luckily my 3 grandchildren are well behaved. The surrounding area of Gumbet wasn't very clean and you have dogs following you everywhere.(My grandchildren were playing spot the turd on the pavements)! If you are planning on staying here either take sleeping tablets with you or get drunk every night.

Room Tip: Do not have a room anywhere near reception!

Fantastic Hotel, great location, VERY clean and the staff all very helpful and polite. The food was basic, but there was something for all tastes. Breakfast was yummy, try the fresh pancakes and sour cherry jam!. The pool area was compact, but kept spotless, however the music played by the hotel's entertainment team was inappropriate for anyone under the age of 18. My son has learnt a few new words, but after two requests to change the swearing raping it was done...only to return a few days later!. That said our party of six adults and one 10 year old had a super time here and would not hesitate to recommend Shark Hotel!

My partner and I stayed at the Shark Club Hotel late September/early October for a week and had a fantastic holiday.

Room - We had a standard room on the first floor overlooking the pool. There was no balcony just double patio style doors which was a shame as this side of the hotel caught the late afternoon/early evening sun whereas the rooms with balconies on the facing side didn’t! The room was new, modern with a large queen? sized bed plus one single bed, remote controlled air conditioning unit and small flat screen TV. The room also had a fridge with one free bottle of water on arrival. The bathroom was new, clean, of adequate size with a large shower enclosure and extremely powerful shower. Complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer were also supplied. The room was kept spotless by the maid who always had a friendly "Murhaba" for you! There was a lack of drawer space (just bedside), but that didn’t cause a major issue. The wardrobe included a safe (additional charge) to lock away valuables. Although the beds had bottom sheets, the upper were only thin blanket style coverings, not to my taste and I ended up taking the bottom sheet off the single bed! This was just my preference, but my partner wasn’t bothered!

Food – oh dear! This is the only area that really detracts from this hotel and when an ‘All Inclusive’ Hotel is openly advertising local restaurants you do have to wonder about their commitment to meeting a good standard of food quality! Saying that, we were always able to eat something on offer, the range was simply limited. All meals were served in the main restaurant which led out onto the small terrace area. Breakfast: cereal, squash, tea and coffee, some fruit (mainly melon which was good), continental meats and cheese slices, range of fresh breads which could be toasted, boiled eggs, chopped up hot dog sausages, baked beans. A waiter was available to make you a fresh omelette, however this was his version which was basically a fried egg which you could have cooked on both sides! I did ask the maitre’d whether it was possible to mix the eggs myself and get him to cook them, but was informed that if I did that, then everyone would be wanting something different! As I have already said, lack of commitment when it comes to the food. Snacks: available at the pool bar between 10.30am and about 4pm included burgers and chips and later afternoon pasta and a sauce with chopped up hotdogs in it! About 5.30/6pm a few trays of biscuits and cakes were available. Lunch/Dinner: Soup (some extremely strange flavours at times, but mostly good), fresh bread again, mixture of salad items (those supposedly in mayo, it didn’t taste like mayo!), chips or potato wedges, a hot meat dish, mostly chicken or turkey, meatballs in all sorts of shapes (more like IKEA ones than traditional Turkish), some very overdone vegetables, possibly rice or noodles. The hot dishes did not seem to be kept at a decent temperature, so warm at best and if the meat dish ran out you might end up with chicken nuggets as a replacement! The Turkish love their desserts and there were plenty of overly sweet sticky treats on offer, although not good for your waistline! Although the salad items were traditional Turkish mezzies, there was a lack of other local foods and the menu seemed to favour a foreign palette, unfortunately I’m not quite sure which foreign country it was meant to suit, certainly not ours! We did eat out twice at The Divers Restaurant which was outstanding and Peter’s Place where we found the owner very attentive but didn’t rate the food quite so much.

Drinks – main pool bar open for all inclusive drinks 10am – 11pm (on the dot, 1 second past, you had to pay!). Service slow, thank goodness it wasn’t height of season, but we didn’t go thirsty and there was also red, white and rose wine available which was unusually pleasant. As with most all inclusives, the alcohol is local and weak, but doesn’t warrant complaints as in some reviews given the cost of the hotel! And it is easily remedied – have another! Large water cooler and squash drinks were available self service in this area 24/7.

Pool/Beach/Grounds – The hotel is quite small so don’t expect a huge pool. I think it was a good size and you could touch the bottom all over. As we stayed towards the end of season, the hotel wasn’t full and even though the sunbeds were jammed in like sardines we still found it difficult to find an empty one. We liked the pool area but had we stayed at a different time of year at a time when the hotel was more busy I think our opinion would have been that the area simply wasn’t big enough. There is a sun terrace with sunbeds on the roof, but obviously a lack of drinks and pool there!

Reception - excellent English (always a bonus), attentive and helpful.

Entertainment/Facilities – Free Wifi throughout the entire hotel Music throughout the day (some was very dodgy Turkish radio, but not for long!). Great pool games and atmosphere during the day and such a relaxed atmosphere that people tended to join in voluntarily which made for an even better time. ‘Speedy’ did us proud during the day and in the evening with the range of acts such as Turkish dancing, belly dancing, break dancing. Unfortunately a lack of space on the terrace made it almost impossible to find a seat and we were quite often relegated to sitting on a nearby sunbed – again, this must be a lot worse high season. We indulged in a Turkish Bath and massage onsite – bit more pricey than if you book at one of the agents outside but you do get much cleaner facilities and you don’t have to share with anyone else. Have to say the whole experience was sublime – thanks to Ali and Jimmy.

Location – Gumbet is a very lively resort with all the amenities you could want with the bigger Bodrum only 5mins away by Dolmus bus. Has a small market on Sundays, but the bigger Bodrum market on Tuesdays is the place to go for your authentic fakes! Plenty of nightlife if that’s your sort of thing and although the hotel was very close to ‘bar street’, we didn’t get any of the noise which was a bonus. Big beach and little marina type area where all the ‘5 island’ boat trips go from (islands not up to much, but worth a day out for the price – go for the ‘All Inclusive’ option as it works out a better deal).

Above is an honest and detailed review from our perspective. Apart from the food issues we cannot fault this hotel for a late summer break as we had an excellent stay. Being smaller gave it a nice ambience and guests made an effort to get to know each other whilst we were there. We would recommend the hotel to others and at the price we paid was definitely value for money.

Thank you for a lovely week. Andrea and Alistair :o)

Room Tip: Try and get room with a balcony on first floor or above

We have just arrived back from our holiday . The shark hotel was very clean and the rooms are modern. They are kept clean .the bathrooms are fantastic. The staff are friendly and work hard. The food was above average in an all inclusive way.. Repetitive ,However always something for someone. .like us if you want something different. Just go out and eat. . We had no issues with getting a sunbed by the pool which is kept clean . We have stayed at other hotels in gumbet before and overall this hotel is far superior to any other . You are 5minutes from the bars and clubs in the centre and you can't here the music. This is ideal for groups and couples . Overall fantastic

Went here in September 2012 for a week. Great value for money in this modern hotel. Drinks were free daily until 11pm and food was nice, slightly repetitive but always found something to eat. The workers are great aswell, slightly overbearing at times but seems to be the turkish way.
Rooms were spotless and moden with a massive power shower (something not common abroad) and air con was free again not like many places abroad these days. Also located in a great area not too far from shops, restaurants and the beach.
Would also recommend the turkish bath with Jimmy in the hotel, was a good experience. All in all a good hotel!
