“Friendly, relaxing and a lovely place to stay - recommended to anyone.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2009

We had an excellent relaxing week at the Serpina in a very hot July 2009. The rooms are modern and for a small charge have good working air conditioning (you need this in July/Aug!) The staff are very friendly and all speak English, the owner Ali and the restaurant manager Dilek go out of their way to make sure you have a good time and the hotels evening entertainment was very enjoyable. The rooms are small but kept clean and tidy, the buffet breakfast while basic - in the heat it was more than enough. You are far enough outside the hustle and bustle of Gumbet to not be too noisy but its literally only a five minute walk if nightlife is your thing. If you want to go on any excursions - don't blindly take the tour operator ones - there are several agents in the town which can easily better those prices. We had a lovely time in Turkey and most of this was due to the fantastic hotel that is the Serpina - we would recommend it to anyone that wants a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

We found this hotel very friendly and welcoming. The staff would go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The accomodation was clean and presentable throughout apart from the matress which was a lttle harder than we expected.

Will definitely recommend that you attend the Turkish night on a Tuesday night where the staff put on a fantastic evenings entertainment. This includes a large selection from a Turkish buffet then on to some traditional folk dancers and singers and also a bellydancer! The night finishes with all the staff getting into the mood for a boogie with some well rehearsed dance moves from the boys...

As we went out most nights into Bodrum, there is alot more variety there with restaurants and desert-bars. Would recommend that you take your time to get out and about and try the alternative. Getting to Bodrum is easy and cheap by getting the No: 1 (Orannge) bus there which runs from directly outside the hotel. These run 24hrs a day and just stop them by flagging them down. Eat by the Marina on a night and see the view of all the beautiful boats that are docked in that evening.

For relaxation try a Turkish Bath which willl leave you serene. Poolside is just as good with food and drink available at all times and service to your sunlounge by all your friendly bar-boys!

And finally you have the most friendly host, Dilek. She is there more or less all week to help and assist you during your stay. With a warm welcome and a pleasant smile she will make this a holiday to remember...

We would happily recommend the “Serpina” to anyone travelling to this lovely region.

The hotel is ideally situated close (5 minute walk) to the main centre of Gumbet (which rocks at night), but far enough so noise at night is not a problem. Beach front is approx 10 minutes walk. The Dolmus (Local bus) to Bodrum passes directly in front of the hotel, and are the ideal way to see more of the area if you don’t want to spend your holiday at the local beach. We visited Bitez and Yashi beach which are both a bit quieter and the water is crystal clear.

Rooms are spacious and more than adequate, with a good size bathroom with an excellent shower. (Beware like most hotels the shower water is solar heated, so morning showers can be “bracing”, but even with the air-conditioning in the room (extra) a cool shower was more than welcome.)

The rooms are and always kept clean and tidy by the helpful cleaning staff, who occasionally leave you a little surprise with towels and flowers laid out on the bed in a lovely arrangement.

Yes the breakfast is a basic; Turkish breakfast (boiled eggs, toast, cheese, olives etc) with a couple of cereals, but then we were in Turkey and this is their custom. We also tried the hotel’s “Turkish Night” and thoroughly enjoyed it. (Highly recommended for both the quality of the food, and the entertainment – Great value). Unfortunately missed the Mr and Mrs night which we heard was a good night as well.

Drinks at the hotel were a “bit” dearer than you could find locally, but nothing more than one would expect. The measures were however “potent!” and the company was great.

The hotel, surroundings, pool area etc, were all spotless and well maintained.

The main reason we plan to return if possible is the staff. Everyone made our stay a memorable one with their open friendliness and helpfulness. Seriously nothing was a problem to them.

Special mention to Ali the owner, the ever smiling Dilek (Manageress). – (İkinize de teşekkür)

Both make everyone in this hotel feel at home (both residents and staff), and they always had time for a chat.

The locals shops and bars/restaurants in the area are numerous and good value for money, with a great selection of cuisine types which should cater for all tastes should you choose to eat outside the hotel.

This was our first time in Turkey, and we are both glad that we chose the “Serpina”, due mainly to recommendations on this and other websites. We thought at the time that nothing could be as perfect as written by other people, but in this case we feel that nothing less than 10 out of 10 could be scored.

In summary: Great position, Great room, Great people, Good food, and fantastic weather. We shall return.

Every single employee of the hotel Serpina was friendly, helpful and dedicated to making our stay with them as enjoyable as possible. The rooms, bar, pool and eating areas were all very clean. The food although limited in choice was good quality.Enjoyable entertainment was also laid on at least three times a week.Location is about 1km from the beach.Rooms have a TV,minibar and a safe and aircon (both extra cost).
Gumbet town seemed to cater for all tastes with a livlier side and also a quieter side to suit all tastes. The street vendors although very enthusiastic for you to buy their wares were not,as reports i have read previously, aggressive. If you had a laugh with them and joined in the spirit of haggling for the best price,it could be fun.If you were not interested a smile and a friendly response, just prompted them to smile back and wish you a nice holiday.Obviously if you had young daughters with you, your experience would be different from a couple on their own.
However these street vendors do not truly represent the friendliness and hospility of the genuine Turkish people.
The beach at Gumbet is not of the best quality and i recommend using swim shoes, because there was bits of glass visible.May suggestion is to travel to one of the other beaches in the vicinity.
Bodrum is a short ride away in the Dolmus bus, which run at about 10 minute intervals.Price to Bodrum about 50p.The castle in Bodrum is well worth a visit at about £5.
I would not buy any of the tour operators trips as there are better bargains to be had booking direct in the resort. We also had a nice day trip to Cos, via ferry, which cost about £25 ea.We also visited the ancient town of Ephesus which cost us £38 ea.We could have got Ephesus and Pummakkali, with an overnight B&B stay for £50 if we had booked direct.
Overall very relaxing, enjoyable week's holiday.

Dileck and the rest of the staff are always in good form and do their best to make your stay a good one.
The hotel nights are very good and the food they serve is top notch.
If you were going to try and find something wrong it would be the breakfast, which still isn't bad just basic.
For the money you can not find a better hotel than this.
!!O yea do not buy your Turkish bath/ Boat trip of your rep they rip you off, ask Dileck she will point you to the best value one.

I read Trip Advisor before going on this holiday, so I was pretty much prepared for the reality, which was almost spot on. The rooms are a good size and the beds are rock hard but still pretty comfortable. I was disappointed by the poor cleaning standards and it took a complaint to the reception before it was rectified and even then it wasn't that brilliant. The breakfast was a joke and after day 2 I stuck to a small bowl of inferior cornflakes with warm UHT milk and had something at a restaurant at lunch time. We opted for the Air Conditioning at an extra cost and that took 4 days to get working properly because the staff were unaware that it required topping up with gas to make it work properly. These were annoyances and might have spoiled the holiday, but they didn't becauae the good things far outweighed them. The hotel staff, led by Ali and Dilek were extremely friendly and made everyone feel like a part of the family, even going to the trouble of remembering every guests name. The pool area was lovely and the pool itself clean, with plenty of sun beds available and just a short walk to the bar. The entertainment laid on at the Serpina was simple but really good fun and all the staff really tried hard to make it a success.
