“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2013

One of the best hotels in Gumbet. Have stayed in The Sami Plaza 8 times. Rooms are spacious & cleaned every day. Restaurant serves lovely food. Swimming pool cleaned regularly. Only a few minutes from the beach.

10 of us went out to Sami Plaza to celebrate our birthdays. We had a fantastic week, the temperature was just right and we spent many an hour on the beach. Our hotel room was very spacious and comfortable, we overlooked the pool with free air con. The pool area is lovely, lots of sunbeds and a large swimming pool so you can have a good swim or simply relax in the hammocks or huge cussions. The food was varied and plentiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely time to visit and excellent value for money.

Just spent a lovely 2 weeks in the Sami Plaza. The staff were extremly pleasant and very helpful, especially Oktay & the young girl on reception (apologies, but I did not get her name). The room we had for 2 people was very spacious, even having an additional, seperate bedroom and was cleaned thourghly on a daily basis. We also had a massive balcony, which got the sun from sunrise to sunset. An unexpected bonus was the free aircon, which saved a lot of money. Around the clean poolside are there were more than pleanty of sunbeds, kingsize cushions & about 5 hammocks under the shade of the trees to take refuge from the sun. The food was absolutely beautiful & pleantiful at every mealtime. Breakfast consisted of a range of cereals, meats & cheeses, various breads, yoghurt, jams & honey along with freshly made omelettes & crepes to order. Evening meal had soup, 40 - 50 different mezes every night, hot veg, meat, casseroles etc [along with a good selection of cakes - if you were quick enough, as some guests took more than their share!]. The food was so good we paid regular compliments to the chef. The hotel is idealy situated next to all the bars, restaurants & beach within the resort. Would definately recommend this hotel & will be back in 2013.

Room Tip: Try to avoid a room on the main street if you prefer to go to bed early, due to the music, however...

Got back this morning. First time to gumbet and Sami plaza stayed for a week H/B.
ROOM- In need of TLC and bathroom. Cleaned everyday. Balcony overlooking pool and views of mountains which was nice. A/C was free.
LOCATION-First of all great location. Roughly 45mins took us from Milas airport bodrum which was really nice and clean to get to Sami, with dropping other people off. 3TL single for bus to Bodrum about 10mins away. Great for shopping there and lovely reasturants on the sea front great views. Literally 3mins to the beach. Always able to get a sun lounger. Bar on the beach were doing cocktails for 10TL and waitered on you. Sea clean and clear but bit stoney. Swimming pool at Sami plaza clean and again always sun loungers available but preferred the beach personally. Shops sell bottles of beer for 4TL big bottles of EFES.
FOOD/DRINK. Always different food available and very nice. And that's coming from someone fussy about food. Salad bar really nice and fresh. And always different types of cakes or desserts each evening. Breakfast simple with continental. Or cereal. But highly recommend the pancakes made by very friendly member of staff. And the omelettes. Beer was 4TL and cocktail over 12TL. The hotel had a reasturant attached to it and was always full of people and the menu served equally great food.
SAFE DEPOSIT BOX-20TL for a week. Located in the hotel reception.
STAFF-Some spoke English and some didn't but always helpful. Clearing your table and taking your drink orders. If they didn't understand you then they would find a member of staff to help.
EXCURSIONS-Loads to do in gumbet with a tour advisor opposite the hotel from the reasturant. We only did one trip that was to KOS for the day. Recommended to go. 32TL each for a 20min trip on a catamaran to kos and got picked up at 8am from hotel reception and taken to bodrum harbour where we had 8hours in kos till the catamaran departed for turkey and coach take you back to Sami plaza. Only negative point is the passport control which took at least an hour to get through each way due to everyone just queuing wherever they wanted. So bit of a one for all. Same with boarding the catamaran as wanting to get window view.
SHOPPING-Be prepared for hassle from the shop workers to get you in to the shops. It's constant from all of them. Just a polite no thanks and carry on walking. But you will need to haggle once inside the shops. They ask straight away where are you from and we noticed if you say England the prices went up instantly. Put a French accent on or Russian lol but seriously we noticed they went higher.
OVERALL-Great 3* hotel which it is...3*. But food great, staff pleasant. And would recommend. Everyone we spoke to in the hotel also agreed so not sure where the negetive comments come from.

Was the 2nd time staying in the Sami Plaza half board this time, food was good size portions but not very warm, last time you could have room service but this was no available at all this time, drink was also very dear, opted to have a few drinks on the balcony from the off licence up the road which didn't go down well with one waiter Oktay even making a snide comment about it which wasn't necessary and then we made a point of not buying any drink in the hotel instead went across the road to the Bagelvari (Sultan) Hotel which was very welcoming esp Renzo and much cheaper. Receptionist were very friendly and helpful and changed our bedroom without having been asked when they seen that I had some walking difficulties and the original room was a good bit away from reception. Wouldn't return again, over all the attitude of some staff members reflected badly on the whole hotel.

location was OK, local people were lovely, hotel staff were really good but did not seem to cater for english speaking guests, food very poor, room we were allocated was not the room we were shown by travel agent,it was quite dangerous for a small child, the 8 tiled steps up to the room were constantly wet with water dripping from above, wires hanging all over apartment and rear balcony and front porch, electrical sockets hanging out of walls. We asked for a childs play area i do not think 2 small swings cover that request.Pools are not suitable for small children.Tea making facilities would be beneficial .

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2012

On arrival at 11pm we were taken to our room 435. The man at reception took one of our luggage up two flight of stairs(no lifts), and we struggled with the rest. We asked if we could have a sandwich made, as we missed dinner. The man made excuses that the restaurant was closed and he could not do anything for us. We unpacked and was going to go out but had problem locking the door. Phoned reception, and he told us to press button from inside. This did not resolve it. We phoned him again and he come up to show us tthe way to lock it. Press button on inside the, slam door to lock it. Rooms were clean with plenty of wardrobe space, air condition unit, a very old tiny 15" tv. Air conditioning only works with patio door closed, which led to a balcony with two chairs and a table.
After a sleeples second night, we asked to change room. There is a massive water tank next to the room. The sound of the water pump and the water trickling all night long was very annoying.
The girl at reception was very good with us, and we swapped room within a couple of hours, a few doors down the corridors. Room 439 was much better with only a few youngsters coming home in the early hours of the morning being loud.
The breakfast food was quite good, with freshly cooked omelette or fried eggs, cereals ham cheese and other continental food.
Evening meal choice of at least two hot cooked meats with salads, fresh fruit and very sticky cakes. On average the food was good. No drinks available with evening meal. Not even a botle of water. You have to buy them. The hotel is right on the corner of the busy main road, with shops, bars, and only five minutes walk to the beach. The pool is good with plenty of sunbeds. You can leave your towels overnight and nobody seem to mind. There are some good very relaxing hammocks.
The area is lively, when shopping be prepared to barter. The beach is pebbly, narrow, and overcrowded. Free sunbeds everywhere if you buy a drink from the bar that looks after them.

Room Tip: Avoid room 435
