My boyfriend and I went to Turkey the last two weeks of August 2004 and had a brilliant time. It was in the 40’s everyday, some days it got abit too hot, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.
We stayed at Hotel Karaca this was in a good location you couldn’t get any closer to the centre of the resort. We wouldn’t say the hotel wax brilliant but it was ok for the money we paid, the swimming pool and the food was nice but the rooms were not very nice. Don’t stay in 308, we put up with it the first week but we had to change, it was right at the front of the hotel, the road was busy and the hotel bar played loud music until about 3am, I don’t know why there was never many young people in the bar. Gumbet beach was a 5 minute walk, this was a nice experience but we preferred to stay by the pool. The best places to go on bar street are: Legends- great for the cocktails, outback bar-this was a nice chill out bar, X-bar is also a good one and Shakers. We didn’t find the music was great if you’re into your R and B that’s great but we are more of dance lovers and we didn’t find much of this here.
Halikarnas Is situated in Bodrum and is the largest open air nightclub In Europe again lots of R and B but it was nice for the experience very posh, and you get to pose a lot for the cameraman that comes around.
Places to eat in Gumbet: The Istanbul Café, good English breakfast and nice people also just across the street from here is Jill’s Bar this is great for watching football. If you want a good Chinese we recommend Red Dragon on Bar Street quite expensive but a lot better then Peking, Peking is 2 mins from the hotel the guy never stops harassing you every day when you go by.
The Rep was excellent we did lots of excursion- The Freestyle Chill out cruise- this was a nice day as it wasn’t too hot, the boat had plenty of sun loungers and we stopped at about 5 bays, there is a free lunch and drinks including beer!!! We visited Pummakale, Cleopatra’s pool and Ephus – but we would only recommend doing this if you are staying for 4 weeks and its quite a journey on the coach but defiantly something amazing to see.
We also visited the mud baths at Daylan – we went to the mud baths, then you get a free buffet lunch and then along the river to Turtle beach on the way to the beach you pass some famous tombs carved out of the rock face, defiantly worth the visit but unfortunately we didn’t see any turtles.
Also we went to Kos for the day but wouldn’t recommend it if you want to go for the beach because its not very nice, but the harbour and the town is lovely also not very expensive.
Overall we had a great time, if you are on a budget stay at the Karaca but if you want to spend a little bit more the Kivanic apartments looked nice, but this was the best hotel for location.
Would go back to Turkey, but not to this resort.
